W&H shows first rotating instruments with LED technology at IDS

by Carla Schmidt, Germany

COLOGNE, Germany: On Monday afternoon, the Austrian manufacturer W&H presented its “brilliant” novelties in the Köln Triangle tower. The company that specializes in instruments and equipment for dentistry is the first manufacturer which succeeded in using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for lighting the area where a bur is used. It is intended to bring daylight-quality light in the oral cavity for dentists.

The new LED technology was installed in a new generation of hand- and angle pieces for restoration, prosthetics, prophylaxis and surgery. So W&H is the first manufacturer offering rotating instruments with sterilizable LED technology plus generator. The LED technology enables extraordinarily strong and user-friendly miniature lights for surgery. Recently they started to use self-generated LED lights for dental surgery instruments too, which are needed for implants, for example. According to the company, dentists can use light instruments that enable an even more professional work. As a result, the company is the only manufacturer who can offer light of this great quality.

The present product range of W&H comprises instruments for various areas of application in dental medicine. At the IDS stand in hall 10.1, visitors will find, among others, burs for dental caries treatment and/or cavity and crown preparation or instruments for mechanical root canal treatments. Furthermore surgical handpieces and angle pieces for placing implants, air scalers and piezo scalers for the mechanical removal of dental tartar and cleaning of interdentium and dental pockets as well as instruments for the fields of hygiene and care can be inspected and tried.

The family business W&H Dentalwerk with seat in Bürmoos is one of the world-wide leading manufacturers of dental high-precision units. According to the company, innovative product and service solutions, a modern corporate structure and a strong focus on research & development make it a globally leading player in the dental industry. With about 980 employees world-wide, W&H exports its products in over 90 countries. The family business has two production plants in Bürmoos in Austria and in Brusaporto in Italy.
