One out of ten Germans scared of visiting the dentist

BERLIN, Germany: Even though the majority of Germans attend regular dental check-ups, 12 per cent suffer from extreme dental phobia, a survey has found. Every second patient reported being a little afraid of seeing a dentist, whereas one out of three is not afraid at all. The survey results are similar to those found in other countries, such as the USA and Australia.

DES MOINES, Iowa, USA: According to a survey undertaken by the University of Iowa, head and neck cancer survivors face poor quality of life owing to health-related issues. Owing to reduced oral functioning, over 50 percent reported persistent eating problems and 28.3 percent suffered from depression.

DUBAI, UAE: In an effort to improve access to dental care for people living in remote areas of the Emirate, the Dubai Health Authority has launched two new mobile dental units during the inauguration of the UAE International Dental Conference & Exhibition (AEEDC) at the International Convention & Exhibition Center. They are also intended to be used for holding dental awareness campaigns and teach children nationwide about the benefits of good oral health.

Immediate phase-down of dental amalgam use in the UK unlikely

LONDON, UK: The UK could cope with a phase-down of the use of dental amalgam in the longer term, but not in the immediate future, a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Dentistry has said. The meeting, in which experts suggested that the controversial filling material be kept available until a suitable replacement has been developed, followed a 2011 WHO report, which considered the health and environmental factors arising from different filling materials.

DUBAI, UAE: Under the patronage of the Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the sixteenth edition of the UAE International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC) was opened this morning at the International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Dubai. NOTTINGHAM, UK: The British Association of Clinical Dental Technology (BACDT), has launched a campaign to crack down on the growing incidence of illegal dentistry across the UK. The Nottingham-based specialist trade association, which seeks to sustain and advance the ethical practice of clinical dental technology and clinical dental technicians, has created a website that allows consumers to look for a clinical dental technician (CDT) registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).
