W&H Rocks Panama City

Post a comment by Javier de Pisón

W&H took Panama City by storm with an extremely high-quality clinical event attended by some of the best-known Key Opinion Leaders in Latin America on August 22 and 23.

The highly original format of W&H's Surgical Sessions put together the best of the best with an attention to detail rarely seen, which was very much appreciated by all attendees.

The two-day event included three carefully selected speakers, and a hands-on workshop in the unique setting of the Hard Rock Hotel Megalopolis in Panama City, all of which elevated W&H's Surgical Sessions to a truly new class in dental events.

Created and developed by W&H wunderkind for Latin America, Oliver Goetzendorff, the W&H's Surgical Sessions combined three different approaches to show the most advanced dental surgery techniques available:

• Researcher and clinician Dr. Jairo Vargas (Costa Rica) explained the advantages of piezoelectric technology for dental extractions, as well as how to obtain bone graft blocks for implantology. He also introduced the Implantmed, W&H's advanced surgical unit that was then used by attendees in hands-on workshops to obtain grafts, for sinus lift and for implant placement in pig's jaws.

• Andreas Lette, W&H Product Manager for Oral Surgery and Implantology, guided attendees step-by-step on the various functions and clinical advantages of devices such as Piezomed and Implantmed. Lette, an Austrian expert with long experience, has a simple way of explaining and an encyclopedic knowledge of implantology as well as the engineering of these devices.

Predictable osteointegration
Ostell's Vice President of Sales, Niclas Horal-Schultz, completed the trio of speakers by providing a complex but easy-to-understand description of the benefits of the astounding Osstell ISQ Module, which accurately measures implant stability.

W&H has integrated the specially-designed Osstell ISQ Module with the Implantmed surgical unit, allowing for evaluation of the osseointegration of implants in a non-invasive way in a few minutes. The combination of these two devices is a relevant clinical advance that not only facilitates the process of implant placement, but for the first time can scientifically guarantee osseointegration.

Dental Tribune also interviewed many of the participating experts in W&H's Surgical Sessions, which will be published shortly. The interviews include renowned clinicians such as doctors Miguel Ángel Díez Gurtubay, Mario Rodríguez Tizcareño and Daniel Nava, from México; Jorge Galante, Carlos Bugliolo and Pablo Strati from Argentina; Julio Pertuiset and Andrea Kristeller from Chile; Pablo Villamil from Colombia, René Palma from Dominican Republic or Raúl Corró from Panama.

Additional interviews were conducted with Andreas Lette, W&H Manager for Oral Surgery and Implantology; Michael Pointner, W&H Product Portfolio Manager for several clinical areas, and Niclas Horal-Schultz, Vice President of Sales for Ostell AB. These interviews, to be published soon, provide an valuable insight on the state of the new surgical techniques for implantology and oral surgery.
