DUBAI, UAE: The 11th CAD/CAM and Digital Dentistry International Conference, which took place from 4 to 9 May at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai, boasted a record attendance of 2,128 dental professionals from across the world. The six-day forum catered to the scientific and business needs of dental professionals with lectures and panel discussions by leading experts in the industry, as well as a variety of hands-on courses.

The conference, which welcomed dental professionals, providers and distributors from 35 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas, is considered the most important industry event in the region. It provided the opportunity for dental teams to obtain up-to-date professional and scientific information through a series of innovative presentations and practical courses covering a variety of multidisciplinary topics in digital dentistry and continuing dental education.

This year, the organizers—the Centre for Advanced Professional Practices (CAPP) and the Emirates Dental Society—prepared an impressive line-up of top lecturers and a number of accompanying events. In addition to the hands-on sessions, the program offered a wide variety of top-quality lectures and panel discussions, as well as networking opportunities with leading dental providers, distributors and experts from all over the world.

Prominent international speakers discussed current issues in digital dentistry, esthetics, prosthetics, implantology, restorative dentistry and endodontics. The presenters included Dr. Jan-Frederik Güth (Germany), Dr. Michael Dieter (Switzerland), Dr. Çağdaş Kışlaoğlu (Turkey), Prof. Jihad Abdallah (Lebanon), Dr. Joseph Sabbagh (Lebanon), Dr. Mario J. Besek (Switzerland), Vanik Kaufmann-Jinoian (Switzerland), Dr. Kiril Dinov (Bulgaria), Dr. Guillaume Jouanny (France), Dr. Jan Paulics (Denmark), Dr. Tif Qureshi (UK) and Dr. Eduardo Mahn (Chile).

The panel discussions after the sessions fostered the exchange of viewpoints between the presenters and the audience and further increased the participants’ understanding of the subject at hand.

In response to the constant increase in demand for a hands-on approach, CAPP partnered with several international key opinion leaders and industry partners to offer a total of 15 practical courses over the six days. The limited enrollment allowed participants the maximum opportunity to practice the skills covered.

Parallel to the conference, CAPP held the Dental Technician International Meeting, which was attended by over 200 international dental technicians, clinical dental technicians, laboratory owners and others. The meeting focused on the hottest topics of interest for the entire dental technology profession. The panel of speakers included some of the industry’s most respected experts, such as Michele Temperani (Italy), Aiham Farah (Syria), John Philipp (Canada), Christopher Adamus (Denmark), Yamen Chaban (Germany), Simone Maffei (Italy) and Clemens Schwerin (Germany). Dental technicians also attended a number of training sessions during which they could pose questions to and receive valuable insight from the presenters while practicing.

CAPP also held its usual industry exhibition alongside the conference, which was sponsored by leading manufacturers. The exhibition served to showcase the sponsors’ latest digital technologies, materials and solutions, as well as to promote innovative ideas and services. Furthermore, it provided great business opportunities for attendees, visitors and trade representatives.

Overall, the organizers reaffirmed the reputation of the conference as the industry’s leading international scientific event and proved its increasing popularity. In the words of Dr. Aisha Sultan, who opened the conference, the forum is “a gateway to knowledge acquisition, so that all dental professionals may follow the latest developments in the dental world.”
