120 Years W&H: SOS Children’s Villages and W&H

As the world’s first manufacturer of dental transmission instruments and devices, W&H has long been known for its high-quality products and social awareness. In its official anniversary year, from 6 April 2010 to 31 March 2011, W&H will be even more active in the social realm by offering long-term support to SOS Children’s Villages.
During its anniversary year, W&H Dentalwerk Bürmoos will mainly be supporting the Family Strengthening Programme in Kakiri, Uganda, initiated by SOS. Thanks to this support, the financing of the entire programme will be secure for more than two years.

The Family Strengthening Programme in Kakiri was established in 2006 by SOS Children's Villages, in order to provide support for children and families who need help as a result of poverty or illness. The goal is to improve their health and their social situation. This is not a normal SOS children's village, but rather a programme for an entire region. At present, the programme assists around 480 children from 130 families. Its activities include: medical assistance for families, securing basic food for families, and educational programmes for children of school age.

In addition to the Family Strengthening Programme in Kakiri, Uganda, which is directly supported by W&H Dentalwerk Bürmoos, other SOS Children’s Villages campaigns are being carried out by W&H subsidiaries and area managers.

Celebrate 120 years of W&H and help us support SOS Children’s Villages — staying true to the W&H company philosophy: People have Priority. Further information is now available at www.wh.com

NEW PRODUCTS

W&H Synea

Synea Turbines – worldwide first sterilizable LED turbines

“People have priority.” In line with company guidelines, W&H was the first company that presented state-of-the-art turbines which provide the user with LED Technology.

W&H Alegra

A world first: a contra-angle handpiece which produces its own LED light

The new Alegra contra-angle handpieces from W&H allow for relaxed work with daylight quality LED light – in all practices, without extra time and effort, with no additional investments and irrespective of which motor is used on the unit.

In this case, a generator in the contra-angle handpiece acts as a self-sufficient energy source. The functional principle is similar to that of a bicycle dynamo.

The self-generated LED light is neutrally-coloured and many times brighter than a conventional halogen light. The LED light also has a larger illumination field than conventional halogen light. In addition, the LED light has a much longer service life.

The new Alegra contra-angle handpieces offer proven “made in Austria” W&H quality: robust and low on noise and wear. Alegra instruments are thermo washer disinfectable and sterilizable. The data matrix code makes it easier to identify products and trace hygiene and maintenance processes. The laser-engraved code is a special type of barcode. It means that if the instrument is scanned it can be classified automatically.

Prozone

Quick, clean and sterile disinfection:
with Prozone, the new ozone generator from W&H.

Ozone is a highly effective disinfectant. Its gaseous form means that it reaches places that conventional fluoride solutions cannot. Therefore it considerably reduces the risk of infections occurring again. What is more, it can be used in almost all application areas.

Prozone, the new ozone generator from W&H, produces the gas – oxygen mixture via corona discharge. In this process, air is pumped into the device, dried by a special filter, purified and then transferred to a chamber, where it is converted into an oxygen-ozone mixture via silent electrical discharge. This mixture arrives at the area that needs disinfecting via the handpiece and special disposable tips. Prozone only generates the minimum amount of ozone required for the disinfection. It is therefore impossible to overdose.

Pyon 2

W&H presents its new LED piezo scaler for use in four application areas.

The Pyon 2, the new LED piezo scaler from W&H, is an ultrasound device for use in the areas of scaling, endodontics, periodontology and micro-preparation. The accompanying range of tips was developed in cooperation with end users and is exclusively designed to meet their actual tip requirements.

The Pyon 2 is a compact, space-saving and easy-to-use piezo scaler system. Its 5-output LED ring mounted on an easy-to-dismantle and sterilizable handpiece provides optimum light quality in the application area. Since the LEDs only emit neutral white daylight quality light, they reveal the exact colour of the tooth. The entire treatment area is also much better illuminated, enabling the user to work much more precisely and comfortably. The Pyon 2 LED ring is both detachable and sterilizable. The handpiece also comes with a narrow cap which does not contain an LED.

W&H also offers a range of tips designed to meet the exact requirements of the end user. The 1-4U tips cover all aspects of scaling, from rough and fine scaling in the supragingival region to interdental cleaning. W&H also offers two special tips, 1P – the periodontal tip for the supragingival region and 1R-the restoration tip for micro-preparation of fissures and for opening the root canal.
