Anti-piracy—exocad becomes member of BSA software alliance

BSA’s main objective is to combat piracy of the software produced by its members through educational campaigns, software legalisation processes and legal action. The group represents the interests of some of the largest international software companies. (Image: jijomathaidesigners/Shutterstock)

DARMSTADT, Germany: Dental CAD/CAM software company exocad has announced that it has officially joined BSA | The Software Alliance, the world’s leading compliance and enforcement organisation. By becoming a BSA member, exocad has taken an important step to proactively pursue those who violate the company’s intellectual property rights. Any party who creates, sells or purchases unauthorised exocad software will be held legally responsible and prosecuted.

BSA runs a compliance and enforcement programme which investigates reports of unlicensed software through a combination of internal resources and an extensive global network of law firms. BSA subsequently determines the extent of the actions to be taken on behalf of its members.

Both users and distributors of exocad’s software are encouraged to confidentially report licence infringements or piracy directly to BSA, via its website www.nopiracy.org. Depending on the outcome of the case, the reporter may be eligible for a significant financial reward (BSA terms and conditions and limitations apply).

“Piracy is not a trivial offence, but a serious criminal act,” said Tillmann Steinbrecher, CEO and co-founder of exocad. “In the interest of medical device safety, and our many thousands of customers worldwide who have legally purchased their software licences, we will vigorously pursue every known case of piracy.”

Licence infringements or piracy can also be reported directly to exocad via a dedicated licence compliance website.
