SINGAPORE: For the first time, and only for this edition of the event, the International Dental Exhibition and Meeting (IDEM) will be conducted fully online. The event, which is organised by Koelnmesse and the Singapore Dental Association, will take place as a continuing education programme for the dentistry community from 19 June to 19 August 2020. Through this digital platform, participants will be able to discover new products and solutions, as well as learn from the industry’s leading practitioners, and connect with new and familiar colleagues.
The IDEM conference will help dentistry professionals to enhance their skills and network from home by attending a mix of over 20 live and pre-recorded sessions online that will be consecutively uploaded over the two-month period. Registered attendees will be able to earn over 20 continuing education points by attending conference sessions.
The scientific conference will present the latest in dental research, along with practical techniques for clinical applications. New this year to the conference is the Special Care Dentistry Symposium, which will spotlight the current best practices in caring for patients with medical conditions and physical or intellectual disabilities. In addition, this will be the third time that the event will include the Dental Hygienist and Therapist Forum, which is dedicated to the challenges faced by dental hygienists and oral health therapists.
Key conference sessions include:
- “SDA masterclass: Contemporary orthograde retreatment—why, when, how?” by Prof. Shimon Friedman;
- “Modern concepts in prosthetic adhesive dentistry” by Dr Roberto Turrini;
- “Today’s innovation, tomorrow’s reward—implementing digital dentistry in your clinic” by Dr Mohamed Hassanien;
- “Orthodontic indications in children and adolescents” by Dr Lai Ye Choung; and
- “Motivating your patients for successful outcomes” by Tabitha Acret.
“In keeping with the social distancing requirements for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we have reorganised IDEM 2020 as an online experience,” explained Mathias Kuepper, managing director of Koelnmesse, who recently spoke to Dental Tribune International about the opportunities and challenges presented by moving IDEM 2020 online. “We are offering dentistry professionals the flexibility to learn at their convenience, while ensuring that the functionality of the IDEM platform provides an enriching experience for them to both learn and connect with colleagues from across the world.”
IDEM 2020 exhibition
Alongside the conference, the IDEM 2020 exhibition will host more than 250 participating exhibitors online. Visitors can discover the latest products and solutions in dentistry at any time over the two months that IDEM will be staged. They will also be able to interact with representatives from exhibiting companies via chat and other interactive functions that have been built into IDEM’s online platform. Event attendees can also look forward to a variety of networking opportunities, including online business matching, dedicated networking hours and lucky draws.
“Social distancing is no barrier to learning—a belief shared by all the international speakers who have come on board this year,” added Singapore Dental Association President Dr Lim Lii. “With a diverse range of topics spread over two months, delegates can look forward to expanding their horizons at their own time and pace. This includes emerging areas in the Asia Pacific region, such as care for patients with special needs.”
Online registration is available here until August 2020.
The 12th IDEM will take place in Singapore in its established physical format in 2022.
