FDI celebrates 120th anniversary

GENEVA, Switzerland: This past Saturday, 15 August, marked the 120th anniversary of the founding of FDI World Dental Federation (FDI). In celebration of the occasion, FDI President Dr Gerhard K. Seeberger shared an anniversary statement in which he called this milestone a monumental day for FDI and revealed a short preview of an upcoming video that will detail the history and achievements of the organisation.

Oral health professionals, dental associations and regulatory bodies are facing diverse challenges to providing dental care and promoting the oral health of the population while protecting patients and practitioners from the health threat posed by SARS-CoV-2. The council of FDI World Dental Federation has now released a statement on dentistry and oral health during the pandemic.

COVID-19 forces FDI to cancel World Dental Congress 2020

SHANGHAI, China: Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan and was first reported in December 2019, most dental events for the first half of 2020 have been either cancelled or postponed. Now, FDI World Dental Federation has decided to call off its flagship event, the World Dental Congress (WDC), which was scheduled to take place in Shanghai from 1 to 4 September.

WOHD 2020: Is it time for parents to get serious about sugar?

GENEVA, Switzerland: In light of World Oral Health Day (WOHD), which is being celebrated around the world today on 20 March 2020, FDI World Dental Federation released new statistics on the willingness of parents to limit their children’s sugar intake to ensure good oral health. The global survey, which was carried out by YouGov and commissioned by FDI, showed that less than half of parents proactively limit their children’s intake of sweets, carbonated soft drinks and juice as a means of protecting their teeth.
