As digitalisation increases and artificial intelligence (AI) introduces new possibilities, workflows, diagnosis and treatment processes are becoming more efficient. Much of these advancements concern restorative dentistry, and that has traditionally been the focus of the International Dental Show (IDS). Increasingly though, preventive dentistry too has been gaining attention at the event. Of course, this makes sense because it remains crucial to maintain existing restorations to ensure their longevity, and good oral health is fundamental. Consider that, in Germany, around 35 million people are affected by periodontitis—and even the most perfectly crafted ceramic crown or a state-of-the-art implant cannot change that.

That is why I am looking forward to IDS 2025 and the latest innovations in preventive dentistry. For me, preventive care professionals are the unsung heroes of dentistry. They help preserve high-quality restorations and support patients in maintaining their oral health.

To help you plan your visit to IDS, I would like to share my must-visit exhibitor stands. I will start with mechanical and manual biofilm management: be sure to stop by the Young Innovations stand. Exciting product news and special promotions await—but for now, they remain a secret. All I can say is that it is definitely worth a visit!

When it comes to mechanical biofilm management, Dürr Dental and EMS are, in my view, leading the field. In particular, Dürr Dental’s Lunos portfolio is one of the most well-thought-out systems in preventive care.

If you are interested in improving patients’ at-home oral hygiene, I highly recommend visiting Curaden. The company will showcase its interdental brushes again and will be offering live demonstrations. Plus, it is unveiling a global innovation at IDS 2025—something you will not want to miss.

For us preventive dentistry specialists, the Philips stand is always a must. I can already share that the company has an exclusive new launch in store. CP GABA will also be an exciting stop, offering live experiments and new formulations of its well-known toothpastes. Ivoclar too is placing a strong emphasis on preventive dentistry this year and will have a dedicated stand showcasing its latest innovations. A visit is definitely worthwhile—there is bound to be plenty to discover.

One of my personal focus areas is molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH), so I will be visiting GC to learn about the company’s latest advancements in treating MIH patients. Another of my interests is innovations in managing oral mucosal disease. I firmly believe that dental professionals play a key role in early cancer detection and can provide crucial support to patients. That is why I will be taking the opportunity to explore Zantomed’s AI-powered device for early oral cancer detection.

Also new at Zantomed is the BioMarker Vitalchecker. This point-of-care testing device allows practitioners to measure vitamin D3 and B12 levels, as well as haemoglobin HbA1c and 22 other biomarkers, instantly.

If you would like to meet me in person, be sure to visit the Kettenbach Dental stand on Wednesday, where I will be giving a short but insightful presentation. CP GABA has also organised a meet and greet for the Bundesverband zahnmedizinischer Fachkräfte in der Prävention (federal association of dental professionals in prevention—BVZP). For that hour, you can come meet Vice President Rusminka Mujezinovic and me, chat with us, ask questions or simply take some fun photographs with us. The exact time will be announced on the BVZP social media channels.

I wish all visitors an inspiring and eventful IDS 2025.
