LJUBLJANA, Slovenia: At this year’s International Dental Show (IDS), held from 25 to 29 March in Cologne in Germany, more than 135,000 visitors from 156 countries explored the latest innovations in dental care. Among the highlights was the opportunity to see Fotona’s advanced laser technology in action, including the pioneering SWEEPS (shock wave-enhanced emission photoacoustic streaming) technology, the powerful LightWalker II and the compact SkyPulse.
Attendees of IDS had the opportunity to explore SWEEPS technology at Fotona’s booth in Hall 10.2.
SWEEPS is transforming how dental professionals approach endodontics, periodontics and oral surgery. By harnessing the power of fluid dynamics, this technique enhances cleaning, improves disinfection and supports optimal treatment outcomes.
The interest in SWEEPS was particularly evident during a live session titled “Winning with bubbles: The story behind SWEEPS”. Led by Dr Damir Šnjarić, a specialist in dental pathology and endodontics and assistant professor at the University of Rijeka’s Faculty of Dental Medicine in Croatia, the session explored the science of fluid dynamics and demonstrated how SWEEPS builds on conventional endodontic techniques.
After the session, the Fotona team marked the occasion with a glass of sparkling wine and lively discussions about the future of dental care. Fotona’s presence at IDS 2025 was not only about showcasing new technology; it was also about helping to build a community of professionals shaping the future of dentistry.
LightWalker―perfection in laser dentistry
Another focal point at the Fotona stand was LightWalker II, the company’s most advanced dental laser system. Engineered for versatility, it combines two gold-standard wavelengths—2,940 nm Er:YAG and 1,064 nm Nd:YAG—and delivers up to 20 W of power. With more than 80 preset treatments, it supports a wide range of applications, including conservative laser dentistry, ceramic debonding, periodontics, implantology, oral surgery, treatment of oral lesions, dental and facial aesthetics, snoring therapy, photo-biomodulation and pain management.
LightWalker II is more than a technological upgrade. It is a strategic investment aimed at improving clinical outcomes, increasing patient satisfaction, attracting new patients and supporting practice growth.
Attendees were invited to join live sessions, speak with laser experts and engage in lively discussions.
SkyPulse―a compact and versatile laser
SkyPulse is a next-generation portable dental laser platform and the recipient of a Red Dot Design Award. It is available in three models—SkyPulse Endo, Plus and Multi—and each features an Er:YAG laser and can be combined with an optional diode module. This configuration supports a wide variety of treatments, such as endodontics—where SWEEPS irrigation is used—as well as periodontics, implantology and soft-tissue surgery.
Looking ahead
SWEEPS continues to make an impact across the dental industry, and the next opportunity to see Fotona’s innovations at IDS will be from 16 to 20 March 2027. In the meantime, further information on SWEEPS and Fotona’s other technologies is available at www.fotona.com.
