In today’s digital world, businesses need to have a strong online presence in order to facilitate communication with customers and boost practice growth. In the case of dental professionals, being active on social media contributes to marketing success and helps dentists cultivate relationships with the local community. To find out how dental practices can attract potential patients through social media, Dental Tribune International spoke with Natalie Marinos, a marketing specialist at My Social Practice, a company that provides social media marketing content, strategy and support to dental professionals worldwide.
SINGAPORE: For the first time, and only for this edition of the event, the International Dental Exhibition and Meeting (IDEM) will be conducted fully online. The event, which is organised by Koelnmesse and the Singapore Dental Association, will take place as a continuing education programme for the dentistry community from 19 June to 19 August 2020. Through this digital platform, participants will be able to discover new products and solutions, as well as learn from the industry’s leading practitioners, and connect with new and familiar colleagues.
A graduate of Paris Descartes University (now the University of Paris), Dr Léon Pariente currently runs a private practice in the French capital that specialises in implantology and periodontics. In an upcoming free webinar, he and Dr Karim Dada will discuss how various digital technologies, such as CBCT imaging and CAD/CAM, have replaced traditional modalities and enhanced the aesthetic aspects of restorations. Pariente spoke with Dental Tribune International about this topic ahead of the presentation on Thursday, 25 June.

LONDON, UK: Despite dental settings presenting a significantly elevated risk of infection for those in and beside the chair, testing patients for the SARS-CoV-2 virus remains optional. Those advocating for testing say that it would help to keep dental practices safer, to reduce the amount of personal protective equipment (PPE) that clinics use, and to streamline appointment scheduling and treatment. A number of options are available, and one UK doctor is advocating for antibody tests for dental practices.

CHENGDU, China: An increasing number of probiotic solutions are being found to be effective in the treatment of dental caries. In a recent study, researchers at Sichuan University in Chengdu and the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Beersheba in Israel isolated probiotic Lactobacillus strains from traditional Sichuan pickles and found that one strain in particular reduced Streptococcus mutans, which supports the diffusion of oral biofilm structure, by 98.4%.

For dentists and their teams, a key aspect of this will be the adoption of a set of new hygiene protocols that will help to reduce infections and make dental settings safer. On Tuesday, 23 June, Prof. Lorenzo Breschi of the University of Bologna in Italy will host a free webinar that will focus on the incorporation of these new hygiene protocols into clinical practice and guiding patients on the importance of their home dental care regimes.

The three countries topped an index compiled by the digital medical platform Qunomedical, which scored European populations’ dental health, as well as the environmental and lifestyle factors that influence it.
