KREMS AN DER DONAU, Austria: Danube Private University (DPU), a private university specialising in dentistry, has a long track record in postgraduate academic training and continuing education. Starting in 2026, the university is expanding its postgraduate portfolio with the new Academic Expert (AE) in the fields of dentistry, which complements its established Master of Science (Continuing Education) programmes.
The AE programmes are designed for early-career dentists and can be commenced immediately after completion of dental studies, supporting a structured transition into professional specialisation. The AE qualification comprises four semesters.
The state-of-the-art phantom hall at Danube Private University features a total of 74 fully equipped phantom laboratory units, providing an advanced training environment for hands-on dental education.
Graduates who complete an AE programme may progress directly into the third and final year of the corresponding Master of Science (Continuing Education) programme at DPU. Prior academic achievements are fully recognised, accounting for 80 ECTS credits. The Master of Science (Continuing Education) programme comprises six semesters with a total workload of 120 ECTS credits. Courses are delivered in a hybrid format and attract participants from approximately 66 countries worldwide. From the 2026 intake onwards, both the AE and Master of Science (Continuing Education) university courses are offered in orthodontics and oral surgery/implantology and are taught entirely in English.
“Alongside the orthodontic treatment of children and adolescents, which continues to be the main focus, wide scope is given to periodontal, functional, pre-prosthetic and aesthetic treatment for adults. Transdisciplinary treatment techniques and methods tailored to the needs of adult orthodontic care are taught in depth and with a strong practical focus,” explained Prof. Dieter Müßig, rector and academic director of the orthodontics programme at Danube Private University. “This transforms orthodontics into a cross-generational treatment concept. The digital workflow in orthodontics and other innovative techniques is seamlessly integrated into the state-of-the-art curriculum,” he continued.
Danube Private University is located in the Wachau in Austria, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, approximately 70 km from Vienna.
“The oral surgery/implantology programme meets the growing surgical demands of contemporary dentistry. Equip yourself with the skills needed for the future and be confident in meeting the expectations of modern society,” said Prof. Ralf Gutwald, dean of Danube Private University, coordinator of scientific continuing education and postgraduate studies, and academic director of the oral surgery/implantology programme. “Implantology is one of the biggest growth areas: no other field has evolved so much over recent years in terms of diagnostics, treatment and scientific research. Anyone who has engaged with implantology and oral surgery will be keen to expand their knowledge and manual skills. The programme imparts established concepts and viable alternatives, combined with training in manual skills, enabling participants to meet the challenges of successful implantation and surgery, even in difficult cases, and to act confidently even in the event of complications,” Prof. Gutwald added.
