CHARLOTTE, N.C., US: Dentsply Sirona is marking five years of its sustainability strategy, “BEYOND: Taking Action for a Brighter World”, centred on three strategic pillars: Healthy Planet, Healthy Smiles and Healthy Business. Since launching the strategy in 2021, the company has reported progress towards its environmental, social and governance goals and has set new sustainability targets for 2030.

“We are proud of what we have achieved through five years of BEYOND and the positive difference we are making for the environment, our people and our business and throughout the industry,” said Tony Johnson, senior vice-president, chief supply chain officer and executive sponsor for environmental, social and governance matters at Dentsply Sirona. Johnson said the company would continue to integrate sustainability into its operations through digital solutions, reduced packaging waste and longer equipment lifespans supported by service and repair.

Since launching BEYOND in 2021, Dentsply Sirona has:

  • more than doubled its original 2025 emissions intensity reduction target, achieving a reduction of more than 30% in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions intensity compared with the 2019 baseline;
  • enabled more than 29 million smiles over five years, exceeding the original target of 25 million;
  • delivered more than 42,000 clinical education courses over five years to support the professional development of dental professionals;
  • achieved average gender pay parity across its global workforce ahead of the 2025 target and maintained it through 2025;
  • achieved its 2025 safety target two years ahead of schedule and remained among the top 10% of companies for workplace injury and illness prevention through 2025; and
  • supported approximately 7,000 cleft surgeries in 18 countries since 2021 through its partnership with Smile Train.

New sustainability goals for 2030

Building on its progress over the past five years, Dentsply Sirona has introduced new sustainability targets for 2030, including:

  • reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42% compared with a 2024 baseline, and transitioning all its manufacturing sites to 100% renewable electricity;
  • increasing recycled content to 30% by weight across the packaging portfolio; and
  • enabling an additional 30 million smiles.

“We have made strong progress against the goals we set for 2025, while improving the data, processes and governance that underpin our sustainability work. Our new 2030 goals build on that foundation. Just as importantly, we want what we learn and achieve within Dentsply Sirona to translate into practical value for our customers and help advance more sustainable practices across dentistry,” Johnson stated.

Dentsply Sirona’s 2025 sustainability report, which also outlines the company’s targets for 2030 and beyond, is available on the company’s website.
