BOGNOR REGIS, England: FDI World Dental Federation is the principal representative body for more than one million dentists worldwide, and the promotion of environmental sustainability is one of its key goals. Dr Davinder Raju, founder of Dove Holistic Dental Centre, has recently been recognised by FDI for his pioneering approach to sustainability within his practice. Dove Holistic Dental Centre places sustainability at the core of its operations, incorporating infrared heating, eco-friendly materials and equipment, and on-site energy generation through 34 solar panels. Additionally, it embraces the philosophy of causing minimal harm—to both teeth and the environment.
An increasing number of patients, especially younger patients, are seeking eco-friendly healthcare. A recent survey by Dove Holistic Dental Centre found that 94% of its patients would recommend the dental practice based solely on its environmentally friendly approach. The practice was also the inspiration for Greener Dentistry Global, a digital toolkit for the eco-conscious oral healthcare team and an accreditation programme created by Dr Raju.
Speaking about receiving the FDI Sustainability Award, Dr Raju said in a press release: “When my wife, Subpreet, and I set up the dental practice, we were driven to innovate ways in which we could improve the health of both patients and the environment. It means so much to us both to be honoured by FDI and to see Dove Holistic Dental Centre recognised on the global stage.” He added: “Sustainable dentistry is a win–win–win. It’s better for the planet, better for our patients and better for our business.”
Dr Raju is donating the €1,000 prize money to the Greener Dentistry Global reforestation programme, which supports the planting of fruit trees in impoverished areas around the world, empowering communities to establish a sustainable livelihood. He invites everyone to try the Greener Dentistry Global programme free of charge and to explore the membership benefits, including the use of a carbon calculator. For each new member, three fruit trees will be planted.
