SCHAAN, Liechtenstein: Adhese 2 is the latest addition to Ivoclar’s portfolio of adhesives and is designed to improve flexibility and efficiency in routine practice. The new universal adhesive supports both light and dual polymerisation in a single product and is the first adhesive that can be used for dual-polymerising applications directly from the VivaPen dispensing system without the need for an additional activator. Adhese 2 can be used with all etching techniques and in combination with light- and dual-polymerising composites, giving dentists greater freedom of choice in everyday practice.

A single adhesive for greater clinical flexibility

Adhese 2 was developed to simplify everyday clinical workflows and covers a wide range of clinical applications. For the first time, the VivaPen system enables dual-polymerising applications directly, thanks to the innovative blue DC cannula. The tip of the cannula is coated with a co-initiator for self-polymerising applications, enabling additional chemical polymerisation alongside light polymerisation when Adhese 2 is used with a dual-polymerising composite.

By introducing Adhese 2 in the VivaPen and the new option for dual-polymerising applications, Ivoclar has significantly expanded the clinical range of applications, Georg Musil, global commercial product manager at Ivoclar, said. “Dentists can now cover an even broader range of clinical situations with a single adhesive. This simplifies clinical workflows and increases efficiency—a clear benefit for every practice,” he explained.

Greater clinical flexibility, reliable adhesion and clinical safety

Dual polymerisation is achieved by using the blue DC cannula in combination with a dual- polymerising luting composite, ensuring reliable polymerisation even under conditions of limited light access, for example when luting indirect restorations or endodontic posts. When used in combination with the blue DC cannula and Tetric plus Fill, Tetric plus Flow or Variolink Esthetic DC, Adhese 2 delivers consistently high bond strength values (> 25 MPa) for enamel and dentine, regardless of the etching protocol used, contributing to reliable, long-lasting restorations. Its high moisture tolerance also helps maintain strong adhesion to both dry and moist dentine. Additionally, Adhese 2 has an integrated desensitising effect, reducing the risk of postoperative sensitivity. The adhesive forms a mechanical barrier that reliably seals the dentinal tubules, eliminating the need for a separate desensitising agent.

Precision and efficiency in demanding clinical procedures

Adhese 2 can be applied in a minimum layer thickness of approximately 10 μm, supporting the precise fit of indirect restorations and the seamless integration of direct restorations. It also increases efficiency in everyday clinical practice: when applied from the VivaPen, it allows controlled, material-saving intra-oral dispensing and helps reduce material waste, enabling up to four times more single-tooth applications per millilitre compared with bottle systems. Also, its short polymerisation times enable efficient workflows in direct and indirect procedures.
