SCHAAN, Liechtenstein: Ivoclar has announced the launch of IPS e.max Zirconia. This latest addition to the IPS e.max family expands the possibilities for ceramic restorations. Ivoclar developed the product with dental technicians from around the world, prioritising their needs for versatility, aesthetics, efficiency and reliability in the material’s design.
Around 40 dental technicians from around the world were involved in developing IPS e.max Zirconia. Their feedback informed the material’s design from an early stage, refining essential material properties such as shade accuracy, shade transition, strength and surface quality, as well as the material’s range of applications.
Maria Spanopoulou, a dental technician in Greece who was involved in development, commented: “The development process was really fascinating. We had the opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss them openly, and we all contributed to improve the product.” She said that IPS e.max Zirconia had exceeded her expectations, which she attributed to the honest and demanding feedback from the group. “We all put the material through its paces,” she added.
Ivoclar collaborated with dental technicians from around the world in the development of IPS e.max Zirconia.
Direct benefits in digital workflows
IPS e.max Zirconia offers a wide range of possibilities, owing to the GTx Technology used to redefine its aesthetics. The result is a combination of lifelike light dynamics, achieved through an optimised gradient profile, and maximum shade accuracy from chairside shade selection through to the final result. IPS e.max Zirconia covers the full spectrum of ceramic restorations, reducing inventory requirements.
Furthermore, the combination of two yttria partially stabilised zirconia powders—4Y-PSZ and 5Y-PSZ—together with GTx Technology yields an optimised microstructure, supporting reliable milling and sintering performance. IPS e.max Zirconia can be sintered in 58 minutes for restorations up to three-unit bridges and in 2 hours and 57 minutes for larger cases up to full-arch restorations. Together with the material’s high accuracy of fit and predictable shade matching, this processing performance results in increased laboratory efficiency, as well as reliable and aesthetic outcomes for patients.
The material’s properties were put to the test through two million masticatory cycles in a simulator under a load of 550 N. All new additions to the IPS e.max family undergo the same rigorous testing requirements to deliver on the company’s promise to dental professionals: “All ceramics. All you need.”
IPS e.max Zirconia plus IPS e.max Ceram Art
IPS e.max Zirconia has been designed to work seamlessly with IPS e.max Ceram Art, offering laboratories creative freedom, efficiency and high-end aesthetics. To mark the product launch, Ivoclar is offering both products together in an exclusive duo pack: the Redefining Package “Red & White Esthetics” and the Redefining Package “White Esthetics”. Further information about these packages and IPS e.max Zirconia can be found on the company’s website.
