SEOUL, South Korea: Osstem Implant is offering the 2024 OneGuide System: Fundamentals of Digital Guided Implant Surgery textbook to prominent dental schools around the world. Written by Drs Ki-seong Kim and Yong-seo Kim and translated into English by Dr Harry Hyungkyun Shin, the textbook addresses the essential concepts of digital guided implant surgery and features Osstem’s OneGuide guided surgery system.

Seoul in South Korea. The 2024 OneGuide System textbook addresses the essential concepts of digital guided implant surgery.

The textbook aims to enhance understanding of Osstem’s OneGuide system, which was developed to minimise errors during the production of surgical guides and ensure precise implant placement. It features the basic OneGuide KIT, the OneCAS KIT for sinus lift, the OneMS KIT for narrow bone widths and the One485 KIT, which aims to avoid damage to the inferior alveolar nerve in the mandibular molar area.

Digital device usage is detailed for readers with no clinical experience with such devices or those unsure about how to use equipment like intra-oral scanners. Regarding the use of digital devices and the performance of guided implant surgery, Dr Shin commented that careful translation and discussions with local dentists have ensured clarity and consistency to address the discrepancies in terminology that are prevalent between countries.

Combining self-guided study and hands-on lectures

Dr Shin recommends combining self-guided study of the textbook with hands-on lectures. He explained: “On-site lectures offer the advantages of real-time Q&A, open discussions and practical classes; however, when class time is limited, only theory and a few key cases can be practised. Many international students remark on this limitation. An easily overlooked issue in digital surgery is the tendency to oversimplify or generalise surgical protocols. I therefore expedited the English translation to ensure that solutions to specific clinical problems can be found—easily in a single volume.”

Osstem had discussions with its nine overseas subsidiaries in order to select which dental schools would receive the textbooks. Osstem Japan will donate textbooks to 16 dental schools in Japan, including Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Medical and Dental University), Osaka University, Hokkaido University and Kyoto University.

Dr Satoshi Anzai, director of digital education at Osstem Japan, commented: “The textbook covers a variety of cases, from simple to full-mouth scenarios. As such, it is a fantastic resource to help readers fully leverage the OneGuide system and will surely enhance the quality of seminar content.”

Dr Łukasz Zadrożny, adjunct professor at the Medical University of Warsaw in Poland, noted that the textbook thoroughly addresses all stages of treatment, from data collection to surgical planning and placement. “It not only carefully details the principles and procedures of the OneGuide, OneCAS, OneMS and One485 surgical kits, but also includes a rich collection of photographs and diagrams to aid in understanding. I highly recommend this textbook for both beginners and skilled clinicians,” Dr Zadrożny said.
