SEOUL, South Korea: Osstem Implant has signed an agreement with Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic to provide various degrees of support to the dentistry programmes of the private university located in Campinas in Brazil. Brazil is a key market for the company, having around 420,000 dentists and a fast-growing dental industry, and the agreement will help it to contribute to specialist dental training through clinical education programmes and providing support for learning about its latest products.
The agreement was signed on 26 November at Osstem’s Central Research Institute in Seoul by Kyoo-Ok Choi, Osstem Implant’s chairman, and José Luiz (Zeca) Junqueira Filho, director of new projects and innovation at São Leopoldo Mandic. Under the agreement, Osstem will provide comprehensive support to the university via clinical education curricula, learning materials, equipment for hands-on training and the establishment of an exclusive Osstem Implant specialist programme at the university. Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in dentistry and other areas of medicine.
The university’s delegation visited Osstem’s production headquarters in Busan in South Korea, where they closely examined the automated implant manufacturing system before their visit to Seoul, where the company has its headquarters.

Won-Ki Lee, country manager of Osstem Brazil, commented: “Starting with Faculdade São Leopoldo Mandic, we plan to jointly develop and operate implant clinical education programmes in collaboration with Brazil’s leading public universities—the University of São Paulo and São Paulo State University. We also plan to actively introduce our dental imaging equipment to major university hospitals.”
Staying active in a growing market
Since 2000, Osstem has provided clinical education to 120,000 dentists globally. The company participates in and hosts dental academic conferences in Brazil and has earned the trust of the local dental community through a robust educational offering and exceptional speakers. It organises the Osstem Meeting São Paulo, an annual academic symposium that attracts dentists from around the country to the city, where its subsidiary is located, and since 2022, it has hosted product promotion and consultation booths at the largest dental event in the country, the Congresso Internacional de Odontologia de São Paulo. In May, Osstem acquired Implacil De Bortoli, Brazil’s third-largest implant company by market share, and readers are invited to visit the Implacil booth, co-hosted by Osstem, at the forthcoming International Dental Show in Cologne in Germany.
Brazil has the largest medical device market in Latin America, according to a 2022 report by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute, which analysed several growth factors, including population growth, increased life expectancy, rising healthcare spending due to expansion of the middle class, and growth in the medical insurance market.
According to the Conselho Federal de Odontologia, the Brazilian federal council of dentistry, there are currently 424,294 dentists in Brazil and over 400 educational institutions offering dental degrees. The Brazilian dental implant market was worth approximately €315 million* in 2023, according to Osstem, who expects it to grow by an average of 10% annually until 2030.
