HELSINKI, Finland: Ten years ago, Planmeca’s work in dental 3D printing began with the aim of transforming dental manufacturing workflows through greater precision and reliability. That development has now culminated in the launch of the Planmeca Creo X dental 3D printer—a system built on a decade of engineering and field experience. The new printer is designed to provide consistent, high-quality results in both dental practices and laboratories.

From the first concept sketched a decade ago to the final product, Planmeca Creo X is the result of years of hands-on engineering, close collaboration with dental professionals and a sustained focus on quality. Drawing on ongoing user feedback, Planmeca’s in-house development team has fine-tuned the printer’s usability so that each print is not only accurate but also consistently reproducible.

The new 3D printer combines the proven mechanical design of its predecessor, Planmeca Creo C5, with extensively redesigned technology and new core components. Each component has been selected to support robust operational performance while maintaining cost-efficiency. The printer is designed to be durable and reliable to meet the demands of busy dental practices and laboratories, producing highly accurate prints with every use. Planmeca Creo X is intended for the production of dental models, various custom-made appliances, surgical guides and dental restorations to enable both clinics and laboratories to integrate 3D printing into their workflows.

At the heart of the new Planmeca Creo X printer is a next-generation light source that utilises chip-on-board LED technology. This light source is paired with a new monochrome liquid crystal display panel, resulting in a pixel size resolution of 34 µm, an improvement on the resolution of its predecessor. Planmeca Creo X also features an integrated heater for resin temperature control, designed to support optimised printing results for each material in a range of clinical environments.

Since the very first prototype, Planmeca reports that development has focused on helping dental professionals devote more time to patient care by simplifying manufacturing workflows and supporting predictable outcomes. The “X” in the name of Planmeca’s latest 3D printer refers to precision and the company’s ten years of 3D-printing experience.

“With Planmeca Creo X, even beginners can start 3D printing with confidence, knowing their printer will meet their expectations and deliver reliable results every time. Reliability was the key factor in the product development, which is why we have ensured the printer is capable of meeting the evolving requirements of various printing materials, both now and in the future. The combination of advanced mechanical components and new optics ensures perfect results every time, guaranteeing reliability even in the busiest environments,” commented Pontus Degerlund, CAD/CAM director at Planmeca.
