HELSINKI, Finland: Planmeca is proud to introduce a completely new software module for Planmeca Romexis, which makes working with digital impressions easier and faster than ever before. The Planmeca Romexis CAD/CAM module streamlines the scan-and-send workflow for capturing, analysing and exporting digital impressions and offers new intra-oral scanner users a smooth entry into the world of CAD/CAM dentistry.

The Planmeca Romexis CAD/CAM software module has been designed to make capturing and working with digital impressions easier than ever. The module is part of the Planmeca Romexis all-in-one software, which ensures seamless daily workflows at a dental practice with all clinical patient data available in a single system.

Dental practices will benefit especially from the smooth scan-and-send workflow of the new module, by means of which intra-oral scans can be captured easily and sent with just a single click to external partners for restoration design and manufacturing. Whereas new Planmeca Emerald or Planmeca Emerald S intra-oral scanner users are guided through the entire workflow by interactive workflow wizards with quick videos and helpful texts, more experienced users will enjoy the speed and outstanding usability of the scanning software.

With the new module, users can simply start scanning and decide later what they want to do with the impressions. The new module also allows working with more complex cases and, for example, scanning multiple bites and other scan types for a case within a single scanning session. The entire scanning process is faster and thus more comfortable for the patient as well.

Once the user has scanned everything, he or she can mark the margin lines with intuitive tools, analyse and measure the impressions, add bases to create 3D-printable dental models, or send the scans to a dental laboratory or to third-party CAD software for restoration design and manufacturing. The module will also soon include a new tool for simulating orthodontic treatments. All steps of the workflow are conveniently divided onto separate tabs, between which the user can move as he or she prefers.

“With the new Romexis CAD/CAM module, intra-oral scanning is exceptionally easy for new and more experienced users alike. We have paid special attention to usability and made collaborating with external partners extremely simple. The new module is thus a great tool for working with digital impressions and an excellent choice for dental practices looking to enter the world of digital dentistry,” explained Helianna Puhlin-Nurminen, vice president for digital imaging and applications at Planmeca.

“Since intra-oral scans are stored and available in Romexis along with patient photos as well as 2D and 3D radiographic images, users can also easily complete digital smile designs, plan implant treatments and design surgical guides in the same software. Romexis simply makes your work flow,” Puhlin-Nurminen continued.

The new Romexis CAD/CAM module is currently available for scanning only, that is, for Planmeca Emerald intra-oral scanner users who do not design or mill restorations in-house. For now, the entire restorative workflow from scanning to design and manufacturing can be carried out using the Planmeca PlanCAD Easy software.
