BOSTON, US: 3DDX, a US-based digital dentistry company, has announced the launch of 3DDX AI Planning, the first artificial intelligence (AI) implant planning solution with a human in the loop. 3DDX AI Planning pairs AI-generated implant plans with clinical oversight by 3DDX’s in-house dentists and links the approved plans to surgical guide and restoration production in a single workflow.

Built directly into 3DDX Connect, the company’s case management portal, 3DDX AI Planning processes the uploaded case data within minutes. It generates a 3D rendering of the patient’s dental anatomy, performs nerve segmentation, positions virtual crowns and proposes an implant placement plan for the dentist to review.

The treating dentist refines the draft plan on his or her own schedule, presents it to the patient and, if needed, books an online planning session with a 3DDX in-house dentist. Every plan is then validated by a 3DDX dentist, and once approved by the treating dentist, the case moves to surgical guide fabrication. Final clinical decisions always remain with the treating dentist.

All 3DDX AI Planning cases are prioritised in production. Once a plan is approved, 3DDX can produce the surgical guide in as little as two days or provide STL files within 2 hours for in-office 3D printing.

With an approved AI plan, dentists can also request temporary restorations, custom abutments or healing abutments for the same case. By basing surgical guide fabrication and restorative component design on the approved plan, 3DDX helps dentists maintain consistency between the surgical and restorative stages of treatment.

“We’ve spent years watching where clinicians and planning teams actually lose time, and most of it goes into the groundwork before any clinical decision is made,” said Khaled ElSaid, CEO of 3DDX. “AI is here to assist clinicians by taking that work on, right inside 3DDX Connect, where our customers already work every day. Because a 3DDX dentist reviews every case, clinicians proceed to surgery sooner, work more efficiently and reduce costs while continuing to receive the personal support they’ve always counted on from 3DDX.”

3DDX AI Planning is available now for eligible cases through 3DDX Connect. More information is available on the company’s website.
