MADISON, Wis., USA: The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry has cancelled its 36th AACD Annual Scientific Session due to the ongoing threat posed by the COVID-19 outbreak. The event had been scheduled for April 22–25 in Orlando.

An announcement on the academy’s meeting home page states: “The academy’s priority in making this decision is the health, safety and well-being of our members, our staff, our corporate sponsors and exhibitors.”

The website announcement includes a number of questions and answers that cover details related to the cancellation. According to the Q&A section, the academy is not planning to reschedule the event but has opened access to recorded content from its 2019 scientific session to enable AACD member to earn C.E credit online this year. Additional C.E. is available via the AACD virtual campus.

The AACD’s flagship publication, the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, also offers C.E. credit, and the academy reports that it is working out details with several other virtual C.E. opportunities that will soon be available.

The AACD will be issuing registration refunds to current registrants and to those who cancelled registrations on March 11 or later. Another option is for those individuals to roll over their registrations to next year’s meeting at the Gaylord Rockies in Aurora, Colo., April 14-17. That rollover process will provide those registrants with “Prime benefits,” which include early course selection and cost savings.

You can see the full cancellation announcement at www.aacdconference.com.
