Dental community mourns Dr Frank Zastrow

HEIDELBERG, Germany: News of the sudden death of Dr Frank Zastrow, a respected oral surgeon and entrepreneur, has been shared on social media, his colleagues and followers expressing their condolences. He was a recognised leader in implantology and bone augmentation and was known for his contributions to dental education. The cause of his death has not yet been made public.

After completing his dental studies at Heidelberg University in 2004, Dr Zastrow specialised in oral surgery and gained extensive experience in treating complex cases at the Schloss Schellenstein private practice in Olsberg in Germany under Prof. Fouad Khoury, an internationally prominent key opinion leader in oral and maxillofacial surgery. In 2012, Dr Zastrow took over his father’s dental practice in Wiesloch in Germany, transforming it into a state-of-the-art clinic for advanced treatments.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Zastrow was an innovator and entrepreneur. He developed the semilunar technique for simplified bone grafting, which was globally patented and became widely used in implantology. In 2016, he launched MyImplantBusiness.com, a hybrid education platform combining online and in-person training to equip dental professionals with advanced skills in implantology and tissue management. His entrepreneurial ventures also included developing the Easy Bone Collector tool.

Dr Zastrow was a passionate speaker. An expert in bone- and soft-tissue regeneration, he frequently lectured at international conferences, where he shared insights on bone augmentation, implantology and digital dentistry. He actively contributed to professional education through platforms such as the ZWP Study Club and the DT Study Club. He also delivered several webinars focusing on advanced techniques in bone augmentation and implantology. Through these educational efforts, he shared his expertise with dental professionals worldwide, enhancing knowledge and skills in these specialist areas.

Dr Zastrow’s Facebook group, Real Bone Builders, continues to connect more than 16,000 dental professionals globally, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing on complex cases.
