CHANGZHOU, China: The Chinese dental supply company Eighteeth has acquired ZHEAN Healthcare, an innovative Chinese manufacturer specialising in the research and development, production and sales of digital dental diagnosis and treatment equipment and intelligent solutions. It is especially known for its HELIOS series of intra-oral scanners, which can be used in many clinical applications, such as dental restorations, orthodontics and dental implants. The acquisition will facilitate entry of ZHEAN Healthcare products to the global market owing to Eighteeth’s brand advantages.

Digitalisation is the premise and foundation of artificial intelligence (AI) in dentistry. As the first step of digitalisation, the intra-oral scanner is of vital importance. The HELIOS intra-oral scanner can achieve continuous scanning with high speed and precision. Its powerful AI technology is unsurpassed in China.

Based on the oral 3D data obtained by an intra-oral scanner and CBCT scanner, ZHEAN Healthcare partnered with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which is among the top ten universities for computer science, to develop a full-arch and tooth algorithm system that employs data from oral scanning and CBCT.

ZHEAN Healthcare has a talented team of engineers who have worked for multiple world-renowned companies, such as Carestream Dental, ZEISS, NVIDIA and Siemens. Its software algorithm team has over ten years of experience in algorithm development.

The Chest CAD developed by ZHEAN Healthcare is the earliest AI diagnostic software registered with the National Medical Products Administration. The dual-energy algorithm the company developed was integrated into the Carestream digital radiography system. In addition, ZHEAN Healthcare developed a post-processing algorithm system for mobile digital radiography for intensive care units.

In the future, Eighteeth aims to expand its digital dental product offering and ultimately become the leading digital solutions manufacturer in dentistry in the world. Additionally, the company is planning to build a digital dental ecosystem and patient information platform to facilitate dentist–patient communication.
