MUMBAI, India: Envista Holdings Corp. has launched Kerr consumables in India, underscoring the growing importance of the country’s dental market and the company’s heightened focus on Asia. The launch, attended by CEO Paul Keel, came one week after Envista opened a new manufacturing facility in Suzhou in China, linking commercial expansion with increased production in the region.

The company said in a press release that growth in India’s dental market was being driven by increasing oral health awareness and rising demand for aesthetic and restorative treatments. Keel explained at the launch that India is one of Envista’s strategic growth markets and that its growing dental infrastructure and demand for high-quality restorative treatments present significant opportunities. He said: “The launch of Kerr is an important milestone in our commitment to India, where we are making significant investments to ensure our customers can provide better patient care.”

Jay Issa, senior vice-president overseeing Envista’s markets outside North America and Europe, said the development marked a new commitment to Indian dental professionals. He commented: “As we establish our presence in India, we are focused on building lasting relationships through quality products, education, scientific collaboration and strong partnerships with universities, professional organisations and industry partners.” Envista now plans to strengthen its presence in the country through greater engagement with clinicians and a multi-city roadshow featuring international dental experts.

Envista opens new manufacturing hub in Suzhou

In August, the company inaugurated its new US$149 million (€131 million*) manufacturing facility in Suzhou, an industrial hub in Jiangsu province located west of Shanghai. Production at the site officially began on 25 August.

The facility brings production for Ormco, Nobel Biocare and DEXIS under one roof, covering orthodontics, implantology and diagnostics. Notably, Nobel Biocare implants and Ormco orthodontic brackets will be manufactured locally for the first time, and the site will also manufacture aligners and intra-oral scanning devices.

Dental Tribune International has previously reported on the growing importance of Chinese dental implants sales for international manufacturers, owing to government-led bulk procurement of immense volumes, albeit at a substantially lower unit price. Envista said in August that the second round of contracts for dental implants and the first for orthodontic products were expected to be completed in the second half of this year. The company plans to participate in procurement processes for aligners as well as brackets and wires.

Keel explained to the English-language China Daily that demographic changes and increasing affluence and consumer sophistication were driving Envista’s long-term confidence in China. He also emphasised the manufacturing capabilities available in the country: “We did not invest here because of lower-cost labour or construction materials. We came here because it is a more capable manufacturing environment,” Keel told the newspaper.
