Henry Schein announces new independent chairman of the board

MELVILLE, N.Y., US: Henry Schein, the world’s largest provider of healthcare solutions to office-based dental and medical practitioners, has announced the appointment of William K. “Dan” Daniel as independent chair of the company’s board of directors. On 21 May, he succeeded Stanley M. Bergman, who retired from the board after 44 years as director and CEO of the company. Bergman has been named emeritus chairman in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to Henry Schein.

Daniel, who joined the board of directors in May last year, has decades of global executive leadership experience in healthcare and other industries. For 14 years, he served as executive vice-president at Danaher Corp., where he oversaw multiple business segments, including the company’s dental portfolio. Daniel also played a key role in advancing Danaher’s approach to improving business performance and served as a board director at Envista Holdings Corp. after its spin-off from Danaher in 2019.

Daniel said in a press release that it was an honour to take up the position and that he is committed to building upon the strong foundation established by Bergman and the Henry Schein team during Bergman’s tenure. He commented: “Stan’s strategic leadership, sound judgement and unwavering dedication to Henry Schein’s mission have helped shape this company into the leading industry provider of products, services and technology platforms for healthcare customers. His contributions to shareholders, customers, supplier partners, Team Schein Members and society are profound and enduring. I look forward to supporting this legacy with the board as we enter an exciting new chapter of growth.”

Bergman said: “It has been an honour to lead Team Schein and serve as chairman of the board. I have worked with Dan for many years and have huge respect for his business acumen and leadership. The company is in good hands, and I look forward to continuing to support Henry Schein’s continuing success as chairman emeritus.”

Frederick M. Lowery, who succeeded Bergman as CEO in March, said: “On behalf of Team Schein, I want to express our profound gratitude to Stan for his remarkable contributions over more than four decades.
