GETTYSBURG, Pa., US: The Swiss medical device startup Odne just recently held its first online summit to disseminate new scientific and clinical knowledge about the company’s Root Preservation Therapy. The focus of the event was OdneClean, an advanced debridement device that produces hydrodynamic cavitation and employs sterile water as the main irrigant. The summit marked the formal end of the priority access programme for OdneClean and dovetailed with the launch of the device to endodontists at the 2025 annual meeting of the American Association of Endodontists in Boston in the US. At the summit, the programme’s key opinion leaders assessed OdneClean’s benefits and challenges in the first consensus discussion on the device.
Prof. David E. Jaramillo of the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston in the US, presented histological evidence on OdneClean’s debridement efficacy from a new study. The histological study analysed the debridement and disinfection of the most difficult regions in root canal systems, isthmuses. OdneClean was found to improve debridement and disinfection of those challenging anatomies. The scientific study was also presented during American Association of Endodontists meeting.
Dr Benedict Bachstein, who practises at Exclusively Endodontics in New Jersey in the US, shared his clinical experience with OdneClean. He and his endodontic team have performed hundreds of OdneClean cases already. The cases he presented and discussed during the summit focused on OdneClean’s ability to help find and clear lateral and other accessory canals, even in vital cases. Also, OdneClean has been highly effective for opening and cleaning joined root canal systems.
Dr Jenny He, who practices at Associates in PIE and is adjunct associate professor at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry in Dallas in the US, spoke about the potent everyday functionality of OdneClean. She contributed documentation on over 50 clinical cases to the Odne clinical study portal and demonstrated the ability of OdneClean to perform fast and thorough cleaning in retreatment situations. She found removal of remnants of sealer and gutta-percha to be demonstrably easier and praised OdneClean’s ability to clean long, narrow, curved canals efficiently.
Dr Brett E. Gilbert, owner of King Endodontics in Niles in Illinois in the US, shared an emergency case of irreversible pulpitis and symptomatic periapical periodontitis. Cleaning was done using OdneClean with water only, without sodium hypochlorite. Upon follow-up, the patient reported almost no periapical discomfort. Dr Gilbert has used OdneClean in over 100 cases for its powerful rinsing, which he said reduces irrigation risk by enabling him to use less sodium hypochlorite. He expressed his appreciation that OdneClean poses no risk of toxicity and does not cause tissue damage. He is also a very experienced laser user and uses OdneClean in combination, depending on the case.
Dr Jerome Stroumza, who practises at Spruce Dental in San Francisco in the US and owns the EndoImplantology Institute, spoke about his use of OdneClean and OdneFill in his practice. He stated that OdneClean appears to be very helpful in identifying and cleaning mesial canals and that OdneFill offers a reliable high-quality filling. OdneClean and OdneFill represent a paradigm shift in endodontics, since when used in combination, the dentist no longer needs to shape the canal to fit a cone. Root Preservation Therapy enables the cleaning and filling of complex morphologies, preserving as much tooth structure as possible.
The summit participants agreed that expectation setting with the patient regarding potentially experiencing pressure with the use of OdneClean is recommended. They reported that pain or bleeding seemed to be similar to that associated with alternative techniques. Because OdneClean uses sterile water, its use is considered safe and even advantageous in cases involving open apices, sinus proximity or sinus tracts. Based on this valuable scientific feedback, the company said that it will continue its path towards transforming endodontics with passion, scientific rigour and clinical excellence.
