SOMERVILLE, Mass., US: 3D printing expert Formlabs has announced its new Form 4BL, a large-format 3D printer empowering dental professionals to meet the increasing demands of modern dental manufacturing with high throughput, rapid speed and unmatched accuracy. Form 4BL brings large-scale production into dental laboratories, offering dental professionals the ability to print high volumes of models, surgical guides, splints and other dental products faster than ever.
Form 4BL is engineered to streamline dental workflows, delivering more parts with fewer touchpoints. For a range of applications, including orthodontic models and surgical guides, Form 4BL’s speed and large build volume help laboratories reduce labour costs while maximising output. With automatic resin dispensing, faster material changes and simple maintenance, dental professionals can focus on delivering top-tier care rather than managing equipment.
Form 4BL offers the following key features:
- Fast printing speeds: It can print up to 32 dental models in just 14 minutes using Fast Model Resin, empowering dental laboratories to keep pace with even the most demanding production schedules.
- High throughput: Form 4BL’s build platform is 2.7 times larger than its large-format predecessor, enabling users to produce more parts per print and requiring up to three times fewer user interactions.
- Unrivalled accuracy: It delivers a 95% surface accuracy to within 50 μm of the CAD model for restorative applications.
- Versatility: Compatible with more than ten dentistry-specific resins and featuring Open Material Mode, Form 4BL offers flexibility to meet any dental need.
- Maximum uptime: Designed for continuous operation, Form 4BL minimises downtime for dependable large-format 3D printing.
Commenting on Form 4BL, Milos Markovic, director of CAD/CAM and implantology at US dental laboratory Aurora DTC, said: “Compared to some of the more expensive printers we use in our lab, Form 4BL stands out for its efficiency. We can fit two to three times more models on its build platform, all with a similar print duration and exceptional reliability and accuracy. The result? Our throughput has doubled, even tripled, which has been a game-changer for us!”
Stephan Kreimer, a master dental technician at Kreimer Dentallabor, a dental laboratory in Germany, shared his satisfaction too, saying: “I was very happy with the print quality on Form 4B, and it’s the same on Form 4BL. We can use Form 4BL for our products because we need to trust our dental models and the print quality is one of the best on the market.”
