NEW YORK, U.S.: Titanium bases as abutments for CAD/CAM-fabricated crowns and bridges are becoming hugely popular. However, concern has been raised regarding esthetics and long-term results. In a free webinar on Thursday, March 22, some of the difficulties and methods on how to overcome these issues will be discussed.

According to webinar host Jan Willem Vaartjes, when used for fixed implant restorations, titanium bases are cost-effective and a straightforward tool to achieve screw-retained solutions, from crowns to bridges. With correctly designed titanium bases, with angulated screw channels, Vaartjes believes it is possible to work completely without cement, resulting in healthier periimplant tissue and maximum esthetics. In the webinar, Vaartjes will be providing methods on how to achieve this, as well as discussing the influence of prosthetic design and the biocompatibility of the materials used on marginal bone stability, among other topics.

Vaartjes graduated from the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1998 and specialized in the field of implantology. In 2004, he became a certified implantologist and works in a private practice in Utrecht, Netherlands. Actively involved in the development of new prosthetic parts and techniques, he is interested in both the surgical and the restorative components of implantology. He is currently the chairman of the Associatie Nederlandse Tandartsen [Dutch dental association].

The 1-hour webinar, titled “Restoring implants with CAD-CAM titanium bases—Tips on how to achieve maximum aesthetic results and long-term success,” will be broadcast live on Thursday, March 22, at 1 p.m. EST. Attendance is free of charge after easy registration on the website. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a continuing education credit by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic.
