SAINT-MAUR-DES-FOSSÉS, France: With over 500 publications referencing the product on PubMed—a number that is growing every week—Biodentine is one of the materials that particularly piques researchers’ interest in the scientific community. The material has been recognised for its purity, bioactivity and biocompatibility in particular, making it a significant reference solution for pulp capping procedures. Now, another major property of the material has been demonstrated in a recently published article.
Researchers from Aix-Marseille Université in France have found that Biodentine has the highest pulp healing and anti-inflammatory potential when compared to resin-containing materials. The study’s results showed that while Biodentine inhibits pulp inflammation, it also induces the secretion of growth factors involved in the pulp healing process.
There are numerous on-going research projects and studies across the world that focus on Biodentine and its properties. These studies will continue to demonstrate the great potential of the product, particularly with regards to a vital-pulp approach.
The study, titled “Tricalcium silicate capping materials modulate pulp healing and inflammatory activity in vitro”, was published in the November issue of the Journal of Endodontics.
