Henry Schein’s endodontic division is on a fast track to becoming a global leader in root canal treatment solutions. In this interview, Paolo Zanetti, vice president and general manager of endodontics at Henry Schein, discusses the company’s growing momentum, its focus on innovation through the EdgeEndo and FKG brands and how it is shaping the future of minimally invasive endodontic care.

Mr Zanetti, Henry Schein had a strong presence at this year’s European Society of Endodontology (ESE) congress in Paris in France. What were your main takeaways from the event, and why is it an important platform for the company’s endodontic business? Over the past three years, we have developed a collaborative relationship with the ESE. This collaboration, along with open communication with the organisers and exchanges with endodontic specialists, led to a very successful meeting in Paris, where we had the chance to present a series of innovative technologies that are positively changing the endodontic space. This includes our FKG 4D Workflow, which helps to deliver a patient-focused, anatomical approach.
I would like to thank Prof. Hal Duncan, Prof. Gianluca Gambarini, Dr Vittorio Franco and the organisers for the continuous support and productive collaboration. We are confident that the ESE will continue to evolve positively, always addressing the needs of the endodontic community.
How is Henry Schein’s endodontic business positioning itself to become a leader in the global endodontic market? Over the last few years, Henry Schein has strategically brought together a portfolio of brands that cover all key segments of the endodontic market, addressing the needs of both general practitioners and endodontists with unique capabilities, advanced technologies and a global presence. Our goal is to consolidate our strengths and continue to deliver meaningful innovations through our products and solutions. This includes offering comprehensive training and education programmes while building a stronger presence in key markets to best support clinicians and patients.
You’ve overseen the growth of the INT_ENDO Academy and campus. How is this initiative advancing clinician education and improving treatment outcomes? The launch of the INT_ENDO Academy in 2024 was designed to further advance education in endodontics, an area of dentistry that remains highly technique sensitive. Our goal is to help simplify a complex procedure and support clinicians in improving both the clinical outcomes and everyday practice management.
Since the start, we have seen tremendous engagement and attendance in topics we have chosen together with our key opinion leaders. This strong response confirms the genuine need for such educational initiatives and highlights the value that the INT_ENDO Academy brings to the endodontic community.
Endodontics is moving towards more integrated and minimally invasive workflows. How is Henry Schein supporting this trend through its portfolio and partnerships? We have specialised in minimally invasive endodontics since the beginning, starting with the launch of our nickel–titanium file systems, such as the EdgeFile X7 from EdgeEndo and FKG Dentaire’s RACE EVO and XP-endo systems, followed by the introduction of our EdgePro laser-assisted irrigation technology in 2022.
We have always believed that preserving tooth structure is essential to maintaining natural teeth for life. With this objective in mind, we have recently developed the next generation of adaptive file technology, which is designed to be minimally invasive and to adapt to the natural anatomy of the tooth.
Through the launch of the XP-3D and XP-4D technologies, we have taken a significant step forwards in minimally invasive endodontic nickel–titanium files. We are committed to continuing our focus in this area, with the goal of establishing minimally invasive solutions as the new standard in endodontics.
Advances in irrigation, instrumentation and obturation are transforming clinical practice. Where do you see the greatest opportunities for innovation in these areas? We have consistently invested in these three key areas of endodontics, introducing breakthrough innovations in each of them. Today, we offer one of the most comprehensive bioceramic portfolios, featuring industry-leading products such as BC Sealer and TotalFill, as well as one of the most innovative file system ranges, including the iconic X7 and the advanced XP-3D and XP-4D systems. We have also made significant investments in laser and irrigation technologies, and EdgePro is a leading example in the US.
Our innovation focus is on delivering meaningful, clinically relevant solutions. Ultimately, our commitment to clinicians is to invest in areas where we can make the greatest impact through evidence-based, innovative products and services so that they can deliver better patient care as well as improve practice efficiency and profitability.
