YOKOHAMA, Japan: Yokohama has been named the host city of the 2029 edition of the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) General Session & Exhibition. The event is set to take place from 27 to 30 June 2029, heralding the return of the congress to Japan after 28 years. The IADR General Session & Exhibition is the world’s largest dental research meeting, and 5,000 participants are expected to attend.

The announcement follows a successful bid by city and national tourism bodies. A city press release said that Yokohama had been selected owing to its optimal transport and conference infrastructure, as well as Japan’s legacy of leading dental, oral and craniofacial research.

Prof. Satoshi Imazato, who held the position of IADR president until June this year, commented: “I am delighted that Yokohama has been selected to host the IADR General Session. IADR is the world’s largest dental, oral and craniofacial research organisation, and its Japanese division has long had the second-largest membership, after that of the United States.” He added: “I am particularly proud that the IADR General Session will be held in Yokohama—a cosmopolitan city with wide international access. I hope to lead a successful conference in Yokohama while also strengthening the spirit of collaboration between Japan and the global research community, further enhancing the international status of Japanese dental researchers.”

The IADR General Session & Exhibition is held annually. This year, it took place in Barcelona in Spain, and next year’s event will be hosted in San Diego in the US. The event attracts a diverse range of participants from the global dental, oral health and craniofacial research communities, including researchers, industry leaders and clinicians.

The 2029 edition will be held in conjunction with the IADR Asia Pacific Regional Conference at the PACIFICO Yokohama convention centre. The exhibition will feature the latest technologies, hands-on demonstrations and opportunities for meaningful business exchange. The organisers estimate that over 4,700 dental professionals will travel from outside Japan to attend.
