BIETIGHEIM-BISSINGEN, Germany: Owing to the large number of patients seen in dental practices, there is always a danger of coming into contact with an infectious disease. However, the use of reliable intra-oral spray mist suction systems can help prevent the transmission of disease to patients or staff members, according to Dürr Dental.
In a press release, the company stated that intra-oral spray mist suction is an integral part of a practice’s hygiene and infection control measures. It reduces spray mist and effectively prevents the creation of aerosols in the treatment room.
The selection of an appropriate suction system is important. The best options available on the market at the moment are Class IIa medical devices in the form of central or mobile intra-oral spray mist suction systems. Examples of these devices manufactured by Dürr Dental are the VS systems, the Tyscor series and the Variosuc unit. According to the press release, only powerful suction units with at least 250–300 l of suction volume per minute and per operator should be considered, as these are the only devices that effectively reduce aerosols in the dental practice.
In addition, the maintenance of the device is important. Dürr Dental advises that service technicians inspect the system at regular intervals in order to ensure that there is always sufficient suction volume available. This is done using a special measuring device on the large suction cannula.
