ISTANBUL, Turkey: Held from 12 to 15 September in Istanbul, the 2024 FDI World Dental Congress was a resounding success, having attracted dental professionals from around the world. Featuring an extensive scientific programme and an industry exhibition, the event saw the participation of 169 exhibitors and over 200 international speakers. There were a total of 15,810 registrants and exhibition-only visitors, making it one of the most impactful FDI World Dental Congresses in recent years.
Of the total attendees, 27% were international visitors. China accounted for the largest international group, followed by the US, Iran, the UK, Australia, Tunisia, Canada, Germany, Kenya, the Philippines and India. Excitingly, the number of young dentists or dental students in attendance reached 3,238, and the dedicated Young Dentists Forum provided these participants with the opportunity to network and learn about leadership in dentistry. Moreover, the attendance figures point to the impressive extent to which the event contributed to knowledge exchange, professional development and collaboration within the oral health community.
Dr Greg Chadwick, president of FDI, expressed pride in the continued success of the event during the opening ceremony, stating: “The World Dental Congress is a flagship event for FDI aimed at strengthening ties and fostering collaboration within the global oral health community. Istanbul holds a special place in the history of the FDI World Dental Congress. Eleven years ago, in 2013, we convened here for a highly successful event. Today, as we officially open this year’s congress, I am proud to reflect on the remarkable progress we’ve achieved over the past decade, thanks to the collective efforts of our global community.”
Dr Chadwick also extended an invitation to next year’s congress: “I am honoured to welcome all attendees to Shanghai, China, for the 2025 FDI World Dental Congress, which will be held from 9 to 12 September 2025.”
Additionally, FDI will organise two regional congresses next year. The first will take place in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia from 16 to 18 January 2025, and the second is scheduled to take place in San José in Costa Rica from 15 to 17 May 2025.
The three forthcoming events are set to provide additional opportunities for dental professionals to engage in high-quality education, collaboration and networking.
