BASEL, Switzerland: Straumann believes in the transformative power of dentistry. With its SmileAward, the company aims to reward dentists for their most life-changing treatments of patients. Dental professionals are encouraged to submit their most inspiring patient stories until 20 April in order to participate in this year’s contest.

The 2021 inaugural contest attracted 93 participants from 30 countries, and their clinical cases focused on immediate protocols. This year’s competition asks dental professionals to show how they have changed their patients’ lives in one of two different categories in order to share how dentistry can restore confidence and improve well-being. The 2022 SmileAward will reward dental professionals for full-arch rehabilitation patient stories in the Straumann category or for clear aligner orthodontic patient stories in the ClearCorrect category.

The required submission documents must include all relevant diagnostics and step-by-step illustrations. In addition, participants are required to submit a 4-minute video that combines high-definition clinical images with a testimonial by the patient treated.

All cases that meet the criteria will be open for public voting from 1 May to 10 May. From 10 May to 1 June, a jury composed of key opinion leaders in dentistry will select the best eight cases. The winners will be announced at EuroPerio10, which will take place from 15 to 18 June in Copenhagen in Denmark.

SmileAward 2022 prizes

The winners can choose one prize from three different prize categories—Straumann material for pro bono cases, charity donations or educational opportunities—depending on their ranking. The top winners in each category will have the unique opportunity of having their patient stories professionally edited and shared on Straumann channels and will receive surgical and prosthetic material for two complete pro bono cases. Alternatively, they could opt for a charity donation of CHF 10,000 to a non-governmental organisation or they could choose to take home a Virtuo Vivo intra-oral scanner.*
