MegaGen Implant will host the “19th MegaGen International Symposium” in Toronto, Canada, on June 20–21. This year’s symposium is attracting significant attention from the global dental community as it will be held in Toronto — the historic birthplace of modern implant dentistry.
The event is especially notable for its collaboration with Nobel Biocare, widely recognized as a pioneer in implant dentistry, bringing together the clinical legacy of the past 50 years while presenting a vision for the next era driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation.
Toronto holds special historical significance in implant dentistry. In 1982, the city hosted the “1st Toronto Conference,” where the theory of osseointegration was officially introduced to the North American academic community. The conference marked a pivotal moment in establishing implantology as a mainstream discipline within modern dentistry.
MegaGen selected Toronto as the venue for this year’s symposium to honor that legacy while exploring the future of implant treatment. A MegaGen official stated, “By reflecting on the past at the birthplace of modern implant dentistry and discussing next-generation technologies, we hope to emphasize the continuity and future evolution of dental science.”
Held under the theme, “Reviewing the Past 50 Years, Envisioning the Next 50 in Implant Dentistry”, the symposium will showcase the surgical and prosthetic protocols developed throughout the past half-century. Key discussions will focus on digital workflows and AI-based diagnostic and treatment solutions—topics that are becoming increasingly important in daily clinical practice.
The program will highlight the full digital workflow, from AI-assisted precision diagnostics and guided surgery to the fabrication of digital prosthetics. MegaGen’s evidence-based protocols will demonstrate technologies that can be immediately implemented in clinical settings, offering practical strategies to improve treatment precision and maximize clinical efficiency.
Global implant leader Nobel Biocare will participate in this year’s symposium, further strengthening the event’s significance. Through this collaboration, MegaGen aims to honor the foundational technologies that shaped modern implant dentistry while showcasing its own advanced digital capabilities and innovative solutions for the future.
The symposium will feature lectures from some of the world’s most respected authorities in implant dentistry. Speakers include Professor Emeritus Tomas Albrektsson of the University of Gothenburg, known for developing the “Albrektsson Criteria” for implant success; and Professor Dennis Tarnow of Columbia University, internationally recognized for the “5mm Rule” in implant esthetics.
Additional speakers include Dean Clark Stanford of the University of Iowa College of Dentistry, Dr. Paulo Maló—the innovator behind the “All-on-4” concept—and Professor Francesco Mangano, President of the Italian Society of Digital Dentistry.
Korean speakers participating in the symposium include MegaGen CEO Park Kwang-bum, Professor Cho Kyu-jin of Seoul National University School of Dentistry, and Professor David Kim of Harvard School of Dental Medicine.
Through this symposium, MegaGen aims to further strengthen its leadership within the global implant market by introducing innovative solutions and new clinical standards that go beyond conventional treatment paradigms.
