COPENHAGEN, Denmark: 3Shape’s D2000 dental laboratory scanner has received the Red Dot Award in recognition of its design quality. This year, the international jury of designers, design professors and specialist journalists assessed 5,214 entries from 57 countries. The laureates will be honoured in an awards ceremony on 4 July at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen in Germany.

“Winning the Red Dot Award is tribute to the hard work our team put into creating a very cool-looking and disruptive device for a traditionally, conservative industry,” commented 3Shape Chief Designer Eskild Hansen on the award.

“The D2000 is the culmination of our D-series family of lab scanners that have rethought the way a lab scanner should look and perform. The lab scanner, as well as all 3Shape products, bring the Scandinavian tradition for design, form and function to medical devices and most importantly, provide superior performance and innovative technology to dental professionals,” Hansen added.

Before forming part of the permanent exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum, all award-winning products will be presented in the Design on Stage special exhibition for four weeks after the awards ceremony in July.

Criteria for the design competition include degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility. “With their performances, the Red Dot winners not only demonstrated an extraordinary design quality, but they also showed that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions,” Dr Peter Zec, founder and President of the Red Dot Award, remarked.
