SYDNEY, Australia: In some industries, data has become the “oil of the digital era” as it is more valuable than any natural resource. Reliable and detailed market statistics are in high demand for dental manufacturers and suppliers as well. In response to this need, the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) has now announced that its members will soon have access to the latest geospatial tools that will enable them to visualise and analyse the market for dental products.

“Across the medicines and medical devices sector, ADIA is recognised as a market leader in publishing high-quality market data. We're pleased to be rolling out this new tool that has been commissioned in response to requests from member businesses for higher degrees of granularity,” said ADIA CEO Troy Williams.

With the online tool, which uses data drawn from a number of sources, ADIA members will have access to graphical representations of where dentists and allied oral healthcare professionals are located in the country. The data will be available via a password-protected website and users will be able to zoom into a map of Australia to study the distribution of the dental workforce up to a postcode level. After the completion of the beta testing phase, the new resource will launch at the ADX18 Sydney dental exhibition that will take place from 23 to 25 March 2018.

“Industry participants who have been involved in the beta testing phase are excited about the ability of this tool to assist with their business planning. It's ideally suited to supporting sales workforce distribution and identifying areas where there are emerging commercial opportunities,” Williams said.

According to the association, further refinement over the course of the coming year will allow ADIA member businesses to overlay this data with other statistics, such as the number of dental practices in any given area or the number of digital imaging scanners in a certain region.

“Our increased investment in statistical collection and analysis stems from a commitment made in the 2016-20 ADIA Strategic Plan. This sets ADIA on a pathway to provide the tools that empower member businesses with the ability to understand and benefit from changes to the environment in which dental products are manufactured and supplied,” Williams concluded.

In addition to its members, the tool will also be made available to government and key stakeholders in the sector, ADIA announced.
