COLOGNE, Germany: As technology in the field of clear aligners continues to improve, the prospective market too will increase. At IDS 2019, Align Technology released its latest development: SmileView. An online tool for potential Invisalign patients, this revolutionary software helps people visualise their straighter smile before they commit to treatment.
Within 60 seconds of taking a smiling selfie using the SmileView online tool on a smartphone or tablet, prospective patients can see what their new smile and straighter teeth may look like in the context of their own facial features. Operating through a sophisticated machine learning algorithm, the automated system leverages a database of tooth movements from over six million Invisalign cases to provide a simulation of the person’s dentition and projected treatment outcome.
According to the company, the new visualisation tool is designed to drive awareness and demand for tooth straightening using Invisalign treatment by engaging with consumers. Additionally, for those who request a consultation with an Invisalign dentist as the next step, the SmileView tool will direct the user to the nearest dentists in his or her area via the Find a Doctor tool. Alternatively, Align’s smile concierge team can help consumers find experienced dentists in their area and schedule an appointment.
Align’s SmileView online tool is now available via local consumer websites in the US, Canada, Brazil, the UK and Poland, with more markets to follow later this year. However, despite this exciting development, the company does state that it does not guarantee that if patients are treated with Invisalign clear aligners their teeth and smile will look as shown in the SmileView tool simulation.
