Charles Banh works at Ceramics West Dental Laboratory as a consultant for oral surgeons and is the owner of the Practice Within, which provides specific consulting for specialists who work with tailored dental implants. In three upcoming webinars presented by Straumann, Banh will demonstrate how digital solutions can improve the daily workflows of dental laboratories and how dental technicians can successfully grow their businesses.
The first session will explore how dental laboratories can serve restorative dentists in treating select implant cases in an emergency. The ultimate goal for the dental technician is to provide an immediate solution while also maintaining an aesthetic tissue profile for a final restoration that can be restored several months later. In this webinar, participants can explore prefabricated options for both temporaries and custom healing abutments and their associated production costs, and learn about the production workflow and how to consider pricing structures and long-term returns for their laboratory.
In answering the question of what advantages dental laboratories gain from digital solutions, Banh replied: “The main advantage is the ability to provide restorative solutions that satisfy the clinicians need for immediacy. This can include a temporary screw-retained crown for an immediate implant or a milled PMMA provisional for a Pro Arch hybrid case.”

Exploit the full potential
The aim of the second presentation is to demonstrate the potential benefits of digital dentistry for laboratories regarding costs and clinical procedures. Both the production and business aspects will be discussed, as well as possible systems that can be used for implementation. Participants will learn how to decide when it is time to adopt a more digital workflow and how to avoid possible pitfalls.
According to Banh, “Most laboratories have CAD/CAM software that they use routinely. That software has substantial capability beyond what is probably being utilised. Therefore, the key is how to identify opportunities and position that offering to their customers.”

Improve logistics and discover marketing strategies
In the final presentation of the webinar series, Banh will discuss practical improvements to logistics and business strategies to consider that would have an immediate impact on laboratories. These will include potential marketing strategies for implant businesses and alternative workflows in order to increase production efficiency.
Attendance of all webinars is free of charge after easy registration online on the Straumann Campus. Participants will be able to ask questions via a chat window and have the opportunity to earn a continuing education credit for each webinar by completing a multiple-choice questionnaire on the topic.
