SINGAPORE: This month, the leading dental event in Asia-Pacific has confirmed the regional industry’s strength and resilience in challenging times. The 14th International Dental Exhibition and Meeting (IDEM) welcomed over 8,300 dental professionals from 64 countries to the Marina Bay Sands hotel in Singapore. This strong international attendance, despite global economic and geopolitical uncertainties, underscored the region’s growing importance in the global dental market and IDEM’s role as a key platform for business, education and exchange.
Organised by Koelnmesse and the Singapore Dental Association, the event featured 350 exhibiting companies representing 504 dental brands. Under the theme “Innovating smart dentistry for a sustainable digital future”, the exhibition highlighted digital technologies and workflows, advanced clinical techniques and sustainable, patient-centred care. Over three days, the latest advances in prosthodontics, orthodontics, endodontics and paediatric care were presented through live demonstrations, hands-on lectures and in-booth laboratory sessions.
According to Mathias Kuepper, managing director and regional president for Asia-Pacific at Koelnmesse, the exhibition confirmed the continued strength and growth of the Asia-Pacific dental community. “Over the past three days, we have seen meaningful connections made, knowledge exchanged and innovations introduced to a market that is ready for them.” According to the organisers, the 354 confirmed on-site meetings arranged via the IDEM360+ app were a strong sign of commercial interest.
IDEM’s scientific conference furthered the event’s overarching focus on digital and sustainable practice. Across three parallel tracks covering 46 sessions, the programme addressed topics such as aesthetic dentistry, digital workflows, paediatric care, temporomandibular disorder management, peri-implant tissue management and a systemic approach to sustainable periodontal health.
Beyond the scientific programme, the IDEM supporting events addressed wider public health and regulatory issues. The National Dental Association Forum on Illegal Dentistry, for example, considered how the profession should respond to unlicensed dental care through stronger enforcement, public awareness and collaboration. The session also emphasised that regulatory action must be accompanied by improved access to affordable oral care for low-income and vulnerable people. It called on dental professionals to play an active role in patient education, advocacy and collaboration with public health authorities, regulators, enforcement bodies, researchers, dental vendors and the public.
Dr Miguel P. Librojo, a dentist attending the event from the Philippines, commented: “What stood out was the balance between the exhibitor line-up and the conference programme. Attending sessions by Dr Adam Nulty, Dr Pokpong Amornvit, and Dr Anas Aloum—speakers I've followed for some time—and seeing them face-to-face was a real honour.”
Having demonstrated the Asia-Pacific dental industry’s continued appetite for innovation, investment and meaningful collaboration, IDEM is set to return to the Marina Bay Sands hotel on 21–23 April 2028. Visit the event website for more information and updates.
