DUBLIN, Ireland: Though the last two years have been rife with cancellations and postponements of dental congresses, a return to in-person events is slowly but surely occurring. A case in point is the 13th International Symposium on Dental Hygiene (ISDH 2022), which is set to take place in Dublin, the Irish capital, from 11 to 13 August. The event’s organisers are encouraging dental professionals from across the world to sign up and participate in three full days of scientific lectures, workshops, social events, spirited discussions with colleagues and more.
Since it was first held in 1986, the ISDH has established itself as an industry-leading conference for all things related to dental hygiene. The previous iteration, held in Brisbane in Australia in 2019, attracted attendees from 34 different countries who enjoyed an exciting mix of scientific presentations by leading international dental experts and new product launches by the exhibiting companies.
ISDH 2022 will be hosted by the Irish Dental Hygienists’ Association, in collaboration with the International Federation of Dental Hygienists (IFDH), at the Convention Centre Dublin under the theme “The future in our hands”. With the support of the event’s corporate partners, the organisers have compiled a scientific programme featuring speakers from 19 different countries. The speakers include:
Paul Brocklehurst, deputy chief dental officer for Wales;
Dr Kajsa Henning Abrahamsson, associate professor at the University of Gothenburg’s Sahlgrenska Academy in Sweden;
Dr Richard G. Watt, professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London; and
Susan Wingrove, a US-based registered dental hygienist and international speaker, author and researcher.

Though ISDH 2022 will provide plenty of opportunities for attendees to learn about recent developments in the field of dental hygiene, the social element of the event is set to be just as engaging. On the evening of 11 August, a welcome reception will take place at the Convention Centre Dublin, and on the following evening, the famed Guinness Storehouse will play host to the ISDH 2022 Conference Party.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to visit the medieval city of Dublin, which is full of historic highlights and known for its warm welcome,” said Corrie Jongbloed-Zoet, President of the IFDH, adding: “ISDH 2022 will be an event never to be forgotten”.
