ROCK HILL, S.C., US: 3D Systems has announced the US commercial launch of its NextDent Jetted Denture Solution. The denture system utilises multiple materials in a single printing process to deliver a monolithic prosthesis that is durable and highly aesthetic. Being highly scalable, faster and more cost-effective than traditional methods, the solution presents dental laboratories with a denture fabrication system that enables an improved patient experience and a strong return on investment.
3D Systems President and CEO Dr Jeffrey Graves commented: “Our consistent investment in this revolutionary dental technology has culminated in an outstanding denture product. Delivered to the patient much faster and with better manufacturing economics, it meets the rapidly growing demand for essential dental care over a patient’s entire lifetime.” He said that the NextDent Jetted Denture Solution has received market clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration and is manufactured to the highest quality standards and so “dental professionals can stand behind this product with the confidence that they are providing the best care and meeting their patient needs”.
A key part of the solution is the new NextDent 300 MultiJet 3D printer, which enables rapid production of dentures that are tailored to the patient, fully polymerised and safe to handle. Dental professionals also benefit from two new dental materials developed by the company: NextDent Jet Teeth and NextDent Jet Base. When used in the NextDent 300 printer, these materials deliver the desired aesthetics, tooth rigidity and gingival support, as well as a degree of denture toughness that ensures the dentures will not experience premature failure due to an unexpected drop in the sink or on to the floor when removed.
The ability to manufacture single-piece, dual-material dentures in a seamless printing process with no post-polymerisation required enables production that is faster and more efficient. Further advantages include shorter lead times and an improved return on investment compared with traditional manufacturing methods and competing 3D-printing technologies.
Stijn Hanssen, director of dental solutions at the company, commented that the solution was singular in the market owing to its combination of innovative materials, additive manufacturing technology and software. “The complete workflow is engineered for high-volume production, providing unparalleled accuracy and repeatability at a lower total cost of operation. Throughout our extensive beta testing, we saw manufacturing customers produce a full one-piece denture using 50% less manual labour compared with traditional methods,” Hanssen said.
Using the complete solution, dental laboratories can produce a finished denture in one day, significantly faster than the five-day turnaround of traditional production methods. “I am excited to see how this solution will not only transform how dental laboratories operate, but also how it will transform the patient experience,” Hanssen said.
Earlier this year, 3D Systems trialled the NextDent Jetted Denture Solution in leading US dental laboratories and received positive feedback. Joshua Williams, general manager at GPS Digital RPD, commented that users “save so much time not having to assemble their dentures in multiple parts, and do not need to use caustic solutions in post-processing”. Joshua Jakson, president of Evolve Dentistry, shared that the post-processing workflow helped to bolster consistency. “We have had no failures so far, and the materials are next level compared to competitive materials on the market,” Jakson said.
3D Systems is now taking orders for the NextDent 300 printer from US customers. The printer is being manufactured at the company’s state-of-the-art South Carolina facility, and the first units are expected to be shipped this month. European and Asian market releases are anticipated to follow once the regional regulatory approvals have been completed. For more information, visit the company’s website.
