BOSTON, U.S.: As digital technologies become increasingly enmeshed in the everyday workflow of dental practices, dental educational syllabuses are changing to reflect their growing influence. In an example of this, the co-founder of a robotics health care startup has joined the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, the school recently announced.
Dr. Alon Mozes is the CEO and co-founder of Neocis, a company that is “transforming dental implant surgery with advanced robotics,” according to its website. A biomedical engineer by training with a PhD from the University of Miami, Mozes initially worked at Mako Surgical, the developers of a robotic arm system designed to assist in orthopedic surgery.
Alongside a former co-worker from Mako, Mozes formed Neocis, which secured its first round of funding in 2012 and completed a successful clinical study for its core robotic technology in 2016. The success of this study eventually led to market clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for Neocis’ Yomi device, a robotic guidance system for dental surgery.
Mozes joins a number of other CEOs and executives from the dental industry, as well as other leaders from business, government, philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, on the Dean’s Advisory Board.
“The Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine has been a pioneer in digital dentistry and surgically guided placement of dental implants, and I know that Dr. Mozes will ensure that we continue to lead in this field,” said Prof. Jeffrey W. Hutter, dean of the school.
“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Mozes to the Dean’s Advisory Board, and look forward to drawing on his knowledge of the latest dental technological innovations to ensure that our curriculum and patient care stay at the cutting edge,” Hutter continued.
“At Neocis, our mission is to improve dental practice and patient care through the use of advanced robotics,” stated Mozes. “Through participation on the Dean’s Advisory Board, I am excited to share this knowledge in order to ensure students and residents graduate from the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine prepared to use the latest innovations in the oral health care field.”
