TOKYO, Japan: In restorative dentistry, clinicians expect dental materials to support efficient procedures, easy shade matching and optimal clinical outcomes. Kuraray Noritake Dental developed CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal with these priorities in mind, and the material’s balance of shade adaptation, handling and mechanical performance has been recognised in the latest DENTAL ADVISOR awards.
Launched in Europe last year in the Super Low and Low flowability variants, the flowable composite offers a simplified universal shade system in which one shade (U) is designed to blend with the VITA classical A1–D4 system shade range. For cavities in darker teeth with limited surrounding tooth structure, such as Class III and IV cavities, a darker universal shade (UD) is available. Beyond its simplified shade approach, the material is gaining increasing clinical acceptance thanks to its excellent handling properties, high mechanical strength, easy polishing and long-lasting gloss. The Super Low variant is available in the US and was tested by DENTAL ADVISOR.
DENTAL ADVISOR Research Award
Independent in vitro testing conducted at the DENTAL ADVISOR Biomaterials Research Center found that CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal (Super Low) delivers some of the highest mechanical property values within its class, including in flexural strength, fracture toughness and compressive strength. The material also showed excellent shade matching across a broad range of tooth shades when compared with other universal shade composites. Radiographic analyses confirmed that the syringe and tip design contribute to minimal void formation, supporting reliable and efficient placement. Viscosity testing showed a high viscosity, no-slump consistency, allowing precise anatomical sculpting and controlled cusp build-up.
CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal offers a simplified universal shade system in which one shade is designed to blend with the VITA classical A1–D4 system shade range.
These results were key factors in the material receiving the DENTAL ADVISOR Research Award. The award recognises outstanding physical properties and a commitment to research-driven product development.
DENTAL ADVISOR Top Product Award
The material also excelled in the clinical evaluation, earning a DENTAL ADVISOR Top Product Award. Evaluators highlighted its ideal viscosity and impressive ability to blend with the surrounding tooth structure, achieved through optimised translucency, light diffusion technology and carefully balanced colour intensity.
The simplified shade system was found to support clinician’s confidence in daily practice, as well as predictable results in restorative therapy. Evaluator feedback such as “Excellent shade matching and no air bubbles” underscored its suitability for a wide range of restorative applications in both anterior and posterior regions.
Scientific excellence meets clinical practicality
Together, the DENTAL ADVISOR Research Award and the DENTAL ADVISOR Top Product Award recognise CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal (Super Low) as a material that combines strong scientific excellence with clinical practicality. For clinicians, it offers a versatile solution that provides efficiency without sacrificing aesthetics or strength.
