COLOGNE, Germany: This year’s International Dental Show (IDS) was again a record-breaking one. With 155,000 tickets sold and 2,300 booth spaces rented, both the visitor and exhibitor numbers rose to a new all-time high. Among the experienced exhibiting companies was NOUVAG, a Swiss manufacturer of dental and medical equipment. At the fair, the company introduced a new contra-angle handpiece for its successful flagship products, the Physio Dispenser MD 11 and MD 30 motor systems.

“We represent the Swiss industry and Switzerland stands for precision and quality,” Alexander Künzle, Head of Sales at NOUVAG, told Dental Tribune Online during IDS. “Our products are made in Switzerland; 94 per cent of our fabrication takes place in the country.”

Almost 100 employees currently work for the company, which is headquartered in Goldach in Switzerland and runs offices in Konstanz in Germany and Haltom City in Texas in the US.

Founded by Beda Hutter in 1971, NOUVAG has continuously grown to become a global provider of dental and medical devices for bone-related procedures. “Our main markets are Germany, the US and Asia,” said Künzle.

The company’s dental product portfolio includes Implant motor systems with contra-angle handpieces, dental laboratory motors, a mucotome, handpieces and several accessories.

The most important product NOUVAG first introduced and manufactured is the Physio Dispenser, an implant motor system capable of perfectly accomplishing every step of the procedure, according to the company, owing to its sophisticated motor control for consistent and precise power. The motor system, which was developed by Hutter in the early 1970s, has constantly been improved and is currently offered in two versions for dentistry: the Implantology Motor System MD 11 and the Oral Surgery Motor System MD 30, which offers two motor connections and makes work considerably simpler and more efficient, according to the manufacturer.

At IDS 2017, NOUVAG introduced the new Mini E-Type contra-angle handpiece, which is shorter and lighter than its forerunner, for the motor systems. The combination of the new 20:1 handpiece with the new motor system with a shorter handpiece carrier shifts the resting point between the surgeon’s thumb and index finger further back. This results in a better balance, which is clearly noticeable when applying pressure to the drill.

“The new contra-angle handpiece was well received during the fair, especially by dental professionals who place a high number of implants,” Künzle stated.
