Tom Tilmans, director of sales and marketing for the Europe, Middle East and Africa at ClaroNav, has over ten years of experience in product launches, channel management and customer service in the dental and medical fields. He has a special interest in digital dental technologies, predictable implant placement and restoration. He has been involved with CBCT technology, implant planning and guided implantology since 2006 and has given international lectures about the process. In this interview with Dental Tribune International, he talks about the major developments the company has on show at IDS and their value to users, as well as the significance of the International Dental Show (IDS) for the company.

Mr Tilmans, over the years, ClaroNav has evolved into a specialist in guided navigation for oral implantology and endodontics. What are you presenting this year at IDS, and what are your focus products?
We have two major products—our Navident EVO dynamic navigation system and our MicronMapper photogrammetry system—as well as several innovations to highlight for each. For Navident EVO, there are three major innovations that warrant mention. First is our voice-activated intra-operative planning. Our Navi-Assist technology allows the clinician to add implants or surgical plans and adjust them hands-free during surgery—a first for dental navigation systems. Simple voice commands allow EVO to make the surgical experience more dynamic than ever. The second important development is the addition and enhancement of artificial intelligence segmentation and interactive preoperative planning to improve treatment planning, diagnostic assessment and highly aesthetic case presentation. Saving the best for last—our industry-leading MicronMapper technology has been built directly into the Navident EVO ecosystem. Now, with one click, the clinician can go from best-in-class full-arch navigation to best-in-class full-arch photogrammetry, all in one device.

Our MicronMapper handheld unit likewise has three dramatic innovations that we are showing here at IDS. Firstly, our new split scan bodies with titanium bases and PEEK caps enhance usability and accuracy. The titanium bases can be intra-orally scanned, are visible with CBCT and allow precise seating, especially during the second stage of implant placement. The PEEK caps can be rotated or removed to facilitate optimal scan accuracy.

Secondly, our Fit Check reverse scan bodies can be screwed into a printed or milled prosthesis and then scanned with MicronMapper to verify the accuracy of the printing or milling process and ensure perfect alignment with the photogrammetry scan. This allows a try-in without the patient, perfect for commercial and in-house labs.

Finally, our soon-to-be-released Tissue Mapper is a handheld probe device that allows soft tissue to be captured in relation to the implant position, allowing particularly the postoperative capture of the mandibular tissue to be accomplished in seconds, rather than precious, frustrated minutes.

What are the benefits for the user when using ClaroNav devices?
Besides the specific advantages already stated, the more general benefits of our devices include efficiency, reliability and innovation. Innovation is a key component of what makes IDS the most important dental event in the world. Customers and partners who have visited us every two years for the past decade will attest to our commitment to that innovation. We innovate to make our products more reliable and clinicians more efficient, and we do it at a pace that allows us to show up in Cologne every two years and impress our clients and competitors.

The week at IDS is drawing to a close; how have you experienced the past few days?
As a group, our team members, our opinion leaders and our corporate partners have been extremely pleased. We are exhausted but also energised by the enthusiasm our products have been met with here. We are always excited to attend IDS, and it never disappoints. New innovations come not only from formal in-booth interactions but also from informal evening conversations. We will return home enthused, fill our orders, solidify new partnerships and get to work for more major moments in 2027.
