DARMSTADT, Germany: Software company exocad has announced that it is postponing its Insights 2020 event planned for mid-March owing to the accelerating spread of the current coronavirus outbreak worldwide. The decision was made after careful consideration and in close collaboration with its 43 international industry partners, exocad stated on Friday. The CAD/CAM event will now take place on 21 and 22 September 2020 at the darmstadtium science and congress centre in Darmstadt.
Several factors prompted exocad to postpone the two-day event, which is aimed at both dental technicians and dentists. The main reason was the significant increase in COVID-19 cases in Europe in the past weeks. According to the latest figures from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, 1,520 confirmed cases and 31 deaths have been reported in Europe, most of which are in Italy, where 1,128 cases and 29 deaths have been confirmed to date. So far, 111 cases have been reported in Germany.*
Strict travel restrictions were first imposed on the population in China, and now measures are being taken in various countries outside of China to curb the spread of the virus. In Italy, about ten cities have been put on lockdown to contain the spread. Thus, considerable difficulties can be expected for those people who want to participate in the exocad event in Darmstadt. As further significant restrictions for major events can be expected within the next few weeks, exocad has decided to postpone.
“The safety and health of our participants, partners and employees is our top priority. In view of current developments and the increased spread of the coronavirus, we have decided to postpone the global event exocad Insights to September,” explained Novica Savic, exocad’s chief commercial officer.
All tickets remain valid for the new dates. Further information about the event, programme and ticket sales is available on the company website.
COVID-19 is caused by a member of the coronavirus family, and the current outbreak was first reported from Wuhan in China on 31 December 2019.
