ISTANBUL, Turkey: A pivotal event in the dental industry calendar, the FDI World Dental Congress is poised to make a triumphant return to Istanbul in Turkey from 12 to 15 September. This year’s congress (FDIWDC24) will be held at two venues: the Istanbul Congress Center (ICC) and the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Centre (ICEC). These venues are conveniently connected within Istanbul’s “congress valley”, offering a unique backdrop for four days of learning, networking and innovation.

This year’s theme, “Bridging Innovation and Perfection”, aptly captures the congress’s mission to advance the science and practice of dentistry. This flagship event of FDI promises to strengthen ties and foster collaboration within the global oral health community. The meticulously crafted programme includes international and local tracks, FDI-led sessions, meet-the-expert events and hands-on courses. There will also be a dedicated track for members of the dental team, featuring abstract presentations through e-posters and free communications. The complete scientific programme can be accessed here.

Highlighting digital innovations and young voices

A key highlight of this year’s congress is a symposium hosted by the Digital Dentistry Society, focusing on the transformative effects of digital technologies on implant dentistry and other areas of prosthodontics. Spearheaded by well-known experts Prof. Simona Tecco and Drs Henriette Lerner, Francesco Mangano, Carlo Mangano and Giuseppe Luongo, the session promises a timely exploration of innovations shaping the profession’s future.

In addition, the Young Dentists Forum offers a dynamic platform for emerging voices in dentistry. Dr Miguel Stanley will lead a 3-hour session titled “Leadership in dentistry: Mindset for success”, intended for young dental professionals and students. The two-day programme also includes a question-and-answer session, providing an unparalleled opportunity for young dentists, students and industry representatives to engage in meaningful dialogue and exchange ideas.

Revolutionising dentistry with AI

A pivotal FDI-led session on AI in dentistry will offer a comprehensive overview of AI applications within the field. Attendees will be introduced to AI-driven precision dentistry and the latest AI solutions tailored for dental practices. The session will delve into AI technologies in dental image analysis, evaluating their capabilities, strengths and limitations.
