PRAGUE, Czech Republic: From 4 to 7 September 2026, dental professionals from across the globe will gather in the heart of Europe for an event that promises more than continuing education. The 2026 FDI World Dental Congress (FDIWDC26), co-hosted by the Czech Dental Chamber, will be a celebration of innovation and leadership in dentistry and of the evolving role of dentistry in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation.

As preparations for FDIWDC26 begin, Dr Roman Šmucler, president of the Czech Dental Chamber, reflected on what distinguishes this congress and underscored its unique significance for the global dental community. He explained why this moment is pivotal for dentistry and highlighted how the congress will serve as a platform for knowledge sharing, meaningful exchange and collaborative efforts to address the pressing challenges facing the profession. A dental surgeon and a specialist in laser surgery and AI medicine, Dr Šmucler also teaches at Charles University in Prague and is widely recognised as a leading voice in Czech healthcare.

“This is not just another meeting,” Dr Šmucler noted. “It is a chance to help shape where dentistry is headed,” he explained. FDIWDC26 has the clear objective of equipping dentists with the necessary tools and confidence to lead effectively amid rapid technological advancements. To that end, the programme is being developed through close collaboration between the FDI Education Committee, chaired by Dr Antonio Estrada, and the FDIWDC26’s scientific programme committee, co-chaired by Dr Šmucler and Prof. Falk Schwendicke.

“There will be sessions on AI, digital workflows, sustainability and how to thrive in this new reality,” Dr Šmucler commented. “It is not just about attending lectures but also about having meaningful conversations with leading experts in dentistry who are driving change,” he continued. FDIWDC26 will offer valuable, practical answers to the challenges dental professionals face today, including implementing clinical innovation and retaining independence in a shifting professional landscape.

Exploring tomorrow’s dentistry in an iconic setting

Beyond the scientific programme, FDIWDC26 is set to deliver a dynamic, immersive experience in one of Europe’s most iconic cities. The congress will bring together leading experts from around the world, combining focused learning with time to connect with others, share achievements and explore the local culture. Attendees can look forward to the expansive industry exhibition, ample networking opportunities and social events each evening, all set against the historic backdrop of Prague.

The location itself is a major aspect of the congress’s appeal. “Prague is the perfect place to feel at home while being part of something extraordinary. At FDIWDC26, attendees will have the opportunity to walk through centuries of culture yet feel the pulse of a modern, international city,” Dr Šmucler explained.

Known for its long-standing contributions to dental education and its vibrant academic environment, Prague offers a compelling blend of tradition, inspiration and hospitality. “FDIWDC26 will be a truly global congress that has been built by an international team with one goal, which is for everyone to feel welcome, relaxed and inspired,” Dr Šmucler commented.

FDI and the Czech Dental Chamber are inviting the global dental community and industry partners to be part of FDIWDC26. Join leading dental experts in Prague to exchange knowledge, embrace innovation and shape the future of dentistry together.
